Technical Panda 4x4 sudden bad fuel economy

I have a Panda 4x4.
I know what grade it needs.
I've had the gearbox and diff oil changed.
I had to get selenia for the box as no one else does the right grade for it.
You don't know what you're talking about.

@bpalmer, I'd get the fluid changed for the right fluid. Gearboxes are funny things and need the right fluids in them or else they can go at any moment, as someone who's been to Namibia a few times it's a place where I definitely wouldn't want to take a car I wasn't 100% sure of.

I have an old citroen as well as my panda their gearboxes use GL4. Now GL5 is now available and is a higher spec but it is detrimental to the boxes as an extra additive eats the material the synchromesh cones are made of, so superceeded quality oil is not necessarily the way to go. Coat on and getting ready to run. :)

Thanks for all the advice, very much appreciated. I took the car back this morning and they did a full replacement of all the gearbox and diff oils for no charge, which was really excellent of them considering all I had to offer was that my gearbox felt a bit clunky after they topped it up.

It's now feeling silky smooth and we should be good to go off on our African adventure :slayer:

Thanks again for the recent advice - we just finished the epic trip ...

In the end we did a total of 6300 km of very mixed conditions ... both tarmac and off road with a final fuel economy of 6.8l/100km so all very happy that economy seemed back to normal. The little Italian mistress didn't miss a beat or misbehave the entire time and we loved bombing past all the heavily laden Toyota Hilux's chewing gallons of diesel on all the dirt roads.

Image from the trip below ... note the cunning full size spare and extra fuel tank arrangement ;)

Looks good. And sunny. So probably not Wales. Nor England for that matter.

You need to add more accoutrements - it suits all the extras. Make it look like my old Lancia Fulvia model car:

Hi there. I also have a fiat panda 4X4 07. 1.2L. Yup its no rocket in top gear . I'm also experiencing fuel problem as U. A friend said that after 140,000 the catalytic converter starts blocking and economy and performance both start to do a nose dive SLOWLY. I'm Tony btw. The propshaft to the rear diff must b checked @ its lowerest coupling / flange. It tends to Dry out the grease. Moisture creeps in and it chews up the splines. Suggest remove propshaft and on the coupling, pull the very tight fitting plate off it and re pack the joint with suitable grease. Fiat sa only stock complete propshafts @ R18000 a piece. I removed our propshaft too late and we now are using the fiat with front wheel drive only. That's til I can make a plan with either a modification or agent parts. Tx. Allanimal50(at)yahoo.com.
