Buy a new one and use the £3500 to make the repayments and a bit of deposit. Most Fiat dealers have a car for less that £6000 hidden somewhere and then you don't have to worry about the MOT for 3 years. Also shouldn't have to fix anything for a while I saved a fortune buying my fiat New Years ago and will be doing it again as soon as I can afford it. Spent more on the wife's punto in the 2 years we've had that than on my Seicento in the first 8 years until I killed the gearbox not putting oil in it. Still as I've now fixed most things on the punto will keep that for a while pretty nippy for a 1.2 auto when you get used to it

Chaps im going to see this car tomorrow http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-58-F...0-/151187356716?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

so i asked if cam chain had been replaced and reply was no record of it being done but then i get a second message saying It is infact a timing belt on this car. There isn't any record of it being changed and isn't actually due. We could get it changed if you wanted for peace of mind

Wasn't these chain and not belt at this age of car ?

It's a belt and a safe engine. I think the change is due at 72 with an inspection only at 36. I haven't had my Dynamic long so I stand to be corrected on this.

I'm not wantin to say you're wrong about it being a safe engine, but apparently (I've seen it somewhere on here) (and I'm not sure if I'd trust it) when the rocker covers became revised (round screw on oil filler rather than the square pull off filer cap) they became interference engines

Just putting it out there

But agree defo belt and not chain on the FIRE engines.

I thought that the difference was down to BHP: 60 = Safe 69 = interference. I could be wrong but have a look at post 11 of this thread:

I know the engines with VVT (all the 69BHP units I believe like you say) are interference, you might be right about the 60's all being safe, but I still have this niggle at the back of my head that says I'm not 100% sure. I can't find where I saw about the later rocker covers now though :bang:
