On this subject can someone please tell me where the drain and refill plugs are on the six-speed box.
Fill I half way up the front, and drain rear edge pointing towards the bulkhead in a 45 degree recess

Thats brilliant thanks...do you refill until fluid runs from the fill plug or is there a particular amount from drained?

Yes drain completely, and fill until it starts flowing out. Iirc it's just under 2 litres but I could be wrong so don't hold me to that.
Just looked on here for the pics I took when I don't it about 18 months ago, but doesn't look like I uploaded them :bang:
The drain plug is a bit hidden, although when you see it it's obvious, follow the above and you shouldn't go wrong, it's nitrally at the lowest part of the gearbox at the rear

And if it's a job for this weekend, make sure you can undo the fill plug before removing the drain!
I know someone who got stuck with an empty gearbox cos the fill plug was seized!

Good advice!, i've seen that happen on an old golf gti but i'm waiting for some OE spec fluid to arrive so i'll probably do it next weekend now.
