Technical 100hp rear damper options

There's a seller on eBay says he has the konis in stock but he's a bit dearer than I just paid for the last paid from demon tweeks.

Don't understand why you would fit extremely cheap parts to one of the most important parts of the car.

I just paid £100 for a pair if Konis and that's cheap enough.

well, even a £100 for a set of rear dumpers sounds like a lot to some ppl who bought their Panda for under £2000. And with suspension u always best of changing front and springs as well. No point investing big cash into a car for that price as eventually u ll have to replace other bits too.

Take Strike for example and his 100k+ miles 100HP. He bought a set of these cheap dumpers coz his stock ones are shot. No point buying KONI for a car like that unless u r planing to eventually rebuild it from a ground up. Coz soon it will need new engine, exhaust, bearings, bushes, struts... the list could be endless.

That's not the point. No matter what the car cost, you never scrimp on tyres brakes or suspension. If those shocks fail suddenly or the springs fail mid corner he'll be in all sorts of trouble. The problem with cheap parts is not the fact that they won't last as long, it's knowing how they will fail when they do give up the ghost. A cheap shock could shear, something you wouldn't See on a higher quality component.

Also. Why buy a 100hp and then run it on the cheap? If you just want a runabout but a lower model?

Makes no sense to me.

wow, im surprised how many ppl just turn a blind eye on the fact that this shocks are £40 each normally and the only reason they are cheap at the moment is because they are on SALE!

So u r saying u shouldn't install anything cheap on the car?

So oem shock is £27 online and ppl should avoid them too? because its part of very important system and thats too cheap? With that logic ppl should only buy expensive tires, and not the cheap unknown brands that u cant pronounce, that constantly have punctures and eggs. But they DO! Show me 1L Nissan Sunny with a set of £300+ Hankook tires. Because they cant afford better things or rather spend that cash on something else that is more dear to them. PPL save on important things all the time, take their own health as an example. Its always - Nah, its ok, i ll survive, it will go away.

I don't know the brands that well so how does FK stack up against Bilstein/Koni?

Not looking for "performance" just something better than stock.

I'll only be getting rears to start with, and get the mechanic whose fitting them to check the fronts too, so if they look a bit past their prime, I'll change those too.

My Panda has done 75k miles, theres some angry knocking from the back and the pogo effect - I'll also need bushes and bump stops (one of these I know has come off, its loose in the coil).

FK are popular in VW scene and are seen as a budget brand but they do work and will be an improvement. At the price is it worth not trying them?

Very true - just ordered a full set, with shipping, still less than the cost of ONE rear B4. Can't be any worse than the stock ones I have now..

I'm sorry but why would you put cheap dampers (not dumpers) on your car? Not suggesting everyone go out and buy some Bilstein coilovers, but pay a little more and get something decent. Seems a lot of 100hp owners won't put their hands in their pockets, makes you wonder what other corners they cut. I can see a good 100hp being a rare thing in the future. Bilstein b4's are cheap and good quality.

With respect Demi, this ain't a 1.0l Nissan sunny being driven because "it's a car" This is an enthusiast forum and no matter how cheap the car, it's still the "drivers" choice. Whether the shocks have a normal RRP of £40 or not is irrelevant. If they are being sold for £7 or whatever it is, then there is a reason behind that. People fit pattern parts all the time, but they are generally from a reliable known source. A lot of cheaper tyres are like cheaper pattern parts. Perfectly good quality with lower performance.

All I'm saying is when you go stupid cheap, you compromise safety. These shocks might be fine but to "stick a set on and find out" is madness in my eyes.

Assuming the guy with these shocks only trundles to the shops and back they might be fine, but I wouldn't want to attack my favourite B road on them.

I sense SPS here... This is not a Spelling Bee buddy but hey, 7 points for that one.

And if u can't understand why ppl would go for Fk dAmpers then maybe u r on the wrong forum?! Or in a words of a great speller "grow a brain".

Bilsteins are £54 per front dAmper. FKs are £5 per dAmper. That's ten times more ( incase ur maths not as good as ur spelling ) now that's £100 more just for the front dAmpers. Last time I checked £100 was not " a little more " some ppl don't even earn that in a day.

If u gonna ad ur " constructive criticism " here u might as well provide facts and not just what u think is " little more ". Coz the way I see it ATM is that u r just trolling here. Makes me wonder about the other 20.000+ posts u made.
