If the original ECU said injector problem, and the new ECU says injector problem, there's a good possibility that there is an injector problem. Could be anything from a faulty injector to poor connections.

ECU fault codes only show how the ECU was unhappy with its signals or results. It still needs diagnosis as to what exactly caused the issue.

:yeahthat:

people rely on faults codes to much these days and thinks it'll tell them exactly what the fault is, when realistically it should be used as a guide only.

Having apparently wasted their money on the ECU, perhaps the garage will pay more attention this time and get it right.

Had teh car been standing unused for some time before you bought it? Could just be a sticky injector that will free up with use. Some injector cleaner (snake oil to some on here) added to the fuel may help, it can't do any harm, but dose as per instructions, more is not better.

I think the car had been sat on the garage forecourt for some weeks before I bought it.

Anyhoo, the saga contines. Have been driving car for 4-5 days since last time in garage workshops, and no problems. Today I drove around 40 miles, and the error 'Icon' amber light has popped up again. So car will be booked in for another check in the next few days, and we shall see what the Vehicle Mechs come up with this time. If it is a fuel inejction problem, then I really do hope that this time they can sus out the problem. If the lamba detector on the catalyzer need replacing, then I hope that they do this....or I'll start getting a tad tetchy....

Anyhoo - continuing saga. Garage replaced part of the wiring loom/cabling around the ECU area. That was around 4 weeks ago. Car back home now, have been driving around for the past 3 to 4 weeks, and so far, absolutely not further problems. so, touch wood, what ever the original problem was, has now been sorted. But I still always keep an eye on the ECU engine icon on start up. ..... thanks for info on this problem. Car goes in for a full servcie and its MOT in February 2014....:D

My 4x4 has at various point shown the engine warning light. On one occasion it turned out to be that a spark plug lead was damaged, but other times, no apparent cause. However, last time (couple of weeks back), the following day the car was clearly running on three cylinders. After proving to myself that ignition was all fine, used multimeter to test resistance of all four injector coils (ie measure resistance across the two terminals revealed after unplugging yellow plugs from injectors). Three showed 16ohms, last showed open circuit -- ie the injector had failed.

In fact, it was also clear that the black socket the plug fits into was 'loose', suggesting that the movement was causing the occasional warning light issue, and also explaining slight misfire I sensed now and again. You may well have the same issue. (Mine was the cylinder nearest gearbox). No idea how the connector became damaged. Having got the part, the repair was quick and very easy to do. Car now running like a dream.

New injectors are over £200 from Fiat -- but I bought four (still on the injector rail) online from a breakers (my cars old and tired anyway), and fixed for £30...

Hope this helps

P
