Every time I pre-order a hire car for abroad I always request the smallest, hoping for a Panda or maybe 500. Every time I arrive at airport they have upgraded me to some godawful giant box. Sometimes I am able to get the high-miles, dented mk3 Panda they keep for emergencies.......with raised eyebrows (but sir, the BMW 1 series is a very nice car).

So, last month in the South-East of Spain I had been upgraded again.....and no Panda or anything smaller in sight or on site. My carriage was a new-model SEAT León (another bloated Golf with 'edgy' styling). And it was diesel.

Now, Spain of course has some of the best (and emptiest) roads in Europe with scenery to match.

Bearing in mind my lurching diesel chariot, just imagine how much nicer it would have been in our 100hp - no potholes, no cars......see the attached image.

lol, bad luck buddy!

Thats why we taking our Panda 100hp on 31st of May to south of France for 2 weeks. Woohoo! Booked it in advance... meaning I had time to upgrade to Tarox grooved discs and pads with Goodridge hoses and Koni Sport suspension kit! Hoping misses would be to scared and clinging door handle rather beating me over the head with her purse. :D

Agreed - a 2 wheeler would be even better. But my wife wouldn't and I am not allowed.........historic issues.

To be honest, on a bike with thick leathers, stopping and taking in the view is rather more unpleasant at 28C though. And those views do warrant close pondering. Also, I wouldn't trust having the camera wedged lightly in its cup-holder.

The one car we passed (after 45 miles) was a 2cv. Perfect.
