First service (no aircon / pollen filter) and low mileage (6000 miles) ...

£134

I said to the salesperson, "So that's £134 for an oil change?"
He replied, "Basically, yes."

At least he was honest, I suppose.

Haven't done it yet! Looking at other options - buying oil filter at dealer and getting it serviced elsewhere.

A genuine FIAT filter will cost you £6-£7, and you can buy 4l of Castrol EDGE 5W40 from Costco for about £24. Find a VAT registered independent (to protect your warranty), & I'd say you'd be looking at around £25-£30 for labour, so £55-£60 all in.

If you do go down the indie route & don't provide your own oil, make sure they use the correct specification for the car.

I am still confused about the other 'checks' required on fluids etc that are listed on the service record. Do these have to be done as not to invalidate the warranty?

Those 'other checks' are not hard to do, and can nearly all be done just by 'looking' (eg look through the clear plastic brake fluid reservoir and see that the fluid is between the min and max marks)

In fact, most, if not all, of these checks are something that any car owner should be doing regularly anyway -- all part of the process of owning a car. Checking things monthly, rather than waiting for an annual service, will often show up 'small' problems that can fixed cheaply, before they go on to become 'big' and expensive to sort.
