Morning.

Can someone help me with an ELD question ?

I have a 2008 Panda Cross and hit a pot hole a couple of days ago.The alloy is smashed and I'm awaiting a replacement from Italy .

So I now have the emergency skinny space saver on.

BUT we have had a mega dump of snow overnight and our village is nearly cut off.I need to run an errand but am not sure whether I'll bugger up the diff by having 2 wheels of different sizes on the front axle ?

Would I be ok over a short journey of about 8 miles ?

Thanks

I'm no expert but I would not have thought so.

I imagine the spare wheel/tyre diameter and circumference are the same as your alloy/tyre combo like on most skinny spares - only the width is narrower. Thus, it should be ok.

Thanks.

I found this on the forum too so think I'm ok :

All Panda Crosses sold in the UK use a solenoid to connect the drive from the prop shaft to the rear diff (note this engages 4x4 but does not lock the diff. However, the rear diff can be locked too, via a switch on the dashboard, and pressing this will force it into 4x4 mode. The diff lock is automatically turned off if speed rises over 30km/h [18mph] specially to prevent transmission wind-up)

I also checked the 4x4 owners handbook again, i.e. the section about ABS and ELD. If I understood it correctly, activating the ELD function (available on Cross and 51KW Climbing) only enables the ELD for the rear differentials, but not a lock of the 4x4 coupling??

It's the rolling diameter that matters, not the size of the wheel. Usually all the different wheel & tyre options will have the same rolling diameter; the tyre profile will be matched to the wheel size to achieve this.

In any case, the car is designed so that the wheels can rotate at different speeds, otherwise you'd never be able to go round a corner.
