I'm over 6ft tall but find the Panda comfortable (unlike many larger cars) however my size 12 foot have never fitted into the footrest to the left of the clutch - well I got the hacksaw out and it does now !

The extra inch and a bit makes all the difference and it's just the heater case there so no danger of damage. A simple mod that took a few minutes (just 3 screws to undo - I cut it on a bench, not in the car) but it's really made a difference on long journeys.

Er, in that case, why is there a ribbed area on the panel where your left foot rests?

It looks about as much like a footrest as a duck looks like a duck.

Whys the side by the vent and screw hole ribbed also? Whys the placid panel on the boot entrance of my car ribbed?

Ergonomics mean most peoples feet won't fit in there, not even enough room for foot to slide up the side of the clutch pedal.

For reference the LHD model has the same ribbed cut out, perhaps people rest their right foot on there instead of on the accelerator...

I use that foot rest all the time... The Mulitpla had one too, which was not present on the LHD car as you used the left wheel arch as a rest.

Does the LHD Panda have it? Maybe some of our continental readers can help here...

Ahead of their replies, no sign of it here: http://ipocars.com/imgs/a/f/d/c/a/fiat__panda_1_3_4x4_multij_16v_cross_esp_km0_2011_5_lgw.jpg

But there are examples of one that can be added to the LHD car to make up for the omission of a rest for the clutch foot: http://x.cloudsdata.net/r/images/products/large/50b342df3fbea_pandapodstopka2.jpg

LHD Active I have has a specific full sized foot rest in it on the left, and the strange cut out to the right of the drivers right foot (as above but mirrored basically).

Great if you can use it as a foot rest, but I'd be very surprised if it was its original design purpose given the size and ergonomics.

Part of the reason for buying the Panda is at least even before this mod I could put my foot to the left side of the clutch, on many Japanese and French cars that's not an option and it makes them very uncomfortable on long journeys and it's not just a small car problem - it's the same issue in the older BMW 5 series.
Before I bought the Panda I had a fumble in the footwell and thought this mod would be possible as there was nothing behind the top of the plastic moulding.
Like all Italian cars the Panda driving position is a bit "short legs long arms" but you get used to that, and it reminds me of the Alfas I had in my youth !

Oh yeah - the 'Italian Ape' much enjoyed in the old Alfasud...........which also had a foot-rest

I didn't buy an aygo as my left foot would have been permanently on the clutch pedal.

I remember on the metro if you rested your foot in the wrong place you could lock up the steering wheel.

My size 11/12's are relatively comfortable in both pandas.
