I recently replaced an injector and the car is now running very well (absolutely nigh and day). However I know that I am supposed to configure the ECU with a designator off the injector. Has anyone done that - I know I need to buy the full version of ecuscan but I think I read somewhere that the ELM27 cables are not capable of performing this operation

If it's running ok, you might be lucky, but you do usually need program the ecu with the injector code. This code has the tolerances of that particular injector.

ECU's do have the ability to adapt as well, but it's unclear by how much and how long it takes.

For what it's worth, I was told by a diesel specialist, injectors in common rail engines are like guitar strings, yes you can fit a new one and it will make a noise (run) but chances are it will be out of tune.

A diesel flow return test will be able to tell if that injector is not performing as it should.

Hi Walterm curious why you needed an injector what were the symptoms and how did you identify which one. Ta Kev

basically I got lucky - the car was running like a pig now power and lots of white smoke. I looked at the correction applied by the ECU to the individual injectors and noticed that one of then was an order of magnitude higher than the others. I bought a second hand injector off ebay and replaced it. Since then it has been running great. I just want to make sure it is set up correcl by programming the code off the new injector into the ECU
