The 100HP was due for its four-year anniversary service and MOT when we got back from Italy in the 1.2.

Big job. Mileage 41000. New cam belt, water pump, air con belt, brake pads (first replacement), plugs, all filters and fluids. The off side rear bump stop had failed and had to be replaced; this, and a seized rear brake pad, caused an MOT failure and re-test. Re-balance all four wheels. 850 quid including MOT, exactly half - 425 quid - for bits; 130 for front and rear pads, 35 for bump stop, 29 for plugs (I can remember when a new set of four plugs cost a pound!).

The bump stop had failed since the Konis were put on the rear.

Not too bad for all that was done and the car certainly feels a bit smoother, but the front Konis will have to wait a month or two now.

Still on its first set of brake pads at 41000?

Mine were done about 18 months ago (25k+) and nowhere near that price, think I got them all for £60 and fitted myself. The rear ones :bang:

I'm obviously not going quickly enough if I make brake pads last that long - on the other hand, at 130 quid a pop perhaps I won't brake at all in future.

I used to do all my own maintenance and modifying, on Fiats and Alfas, and can still dabble if necessary but my days of major DIY servicing are past.
