Just put my winter tyres back on today - Sava Eskimos. We had a mild winter last year when I bought them - bloody typical. Hoping for a severe one this year to justify their cost!
LOL. Same as me by the sound of it. I got some Sava Eskimo S2's last year (on steelies from MyTyres).
Spent most of the winter cursing the warm damp conditions ;-)
However, a little review - on the two days I got to drive them in actual snow they were ace. One day was urban, I took a side street and drove up a hill through a housing estate. I only noticed how slippery it was when I saw everyone else sliding backwards and sideways at junctions. I just slalomed around them and the car drove as if the road was dry
The second was on A-roads through mid Wales. There were sections with a lot of icy slush, and a few areas where there was quite a bit of snow. In the spirit of scientific testing I tested the limits a bit (roads were very quiet!). Again, the tyres were great and when they finally lost grip they did so very progressively - being violent with the steering produced a feeling a little like driving through treacle - the car did skid but quite gradually.
So, in normal driving (and not pratting around) I am very happy with them. They were also quiet when the roads were dry, and seemed to handle just fine too.
However they look fairly agressive so I would not expect them to last long if you kept them on over the summer.
I also believe they have been replaced by the Eskimo S3 which is a more modern tyre design.
Cheers!
