As my poverty spec 12 reg 1.2 Active (is this the euro 5 lump?) doesn't have the consumate luxury of a rev counter, I wonder if anyone can tell me what speed the engine redlines at in the different gears? I only ask as I found myself at well over 70 in 3rd and that 2nd gets nearly to 60mph!!! I have also found that the engine doesn't seem too happy at 60mph in 5th, suggesting FIAT have ramped up the ratios to get better mpg? I suppose I could wait for it to hit the rev limiter in each gear (the mechanically sympathetic part of me would rather not do this) but it would be nice to know to be able to change below this to get maximum acceleration.

As an aside, I must say I am very pleased with the car, it is great to drive, eager to rev, and it delivered well over 50 mpg on a recent 480 mile round trip and I wasn't hanging around! My only gripe is the jerkiness of the throttle response at low speeds.

From memory about 7000 rpm, no doubt MEP or someone will confirm that?

This may be complete rubbish, but I seem to recall that, if the 1.1 engine produced enough power, it would be geared to a top speed of about 140 mph, with the top of third gear being still well into the "naughty zone" in the eyes of the charity "brake"

That thread states 6K rpm...
So? The manual states that max' power for this engine is reached at 5,500rpm. I'm not looking to score points, just linking to what may prove a useful thread for the OP.

I don't think he was trying to point score, just your post looked like you meant 5500 was limiter, but thats just when power drops off.

Indeed, the OP asked where the rev limiter was, I read your post as you saying 5500 rpm... I apologise if it appears I was "point scoring"

Thanks for your replies, I will try that website. Do I get any points as the OP?:)

I must get some to, somewhere i have a photo from 2004 showing 185kph on the speedo of a 1.1 panda.

Other than that more recent hire car testing showed about 98 and 150kph in second and third in a euro5.

I think the eco gearing is very similar to a multijet so 3200rpm is 80ish mph.

Long straight, steep down slope? (On the 1.1)

Off a cliff, I should think.

3200rpm at 80 in fifth! I would imagine it feels much happier at 85 in fifth than 70? Only the italians!
