Hi All

Long time - no post!

I've got a 2006 Panda 1.2 and have had a problem with fumes inside the car. When moving it appears fine but once stationary, with the heater blower on (hot or cold) I get quite a strong smell of exhaust?

Stationary with the blower off - nothing?

I've had the tailpipe changed recently at a main dealer (then refitted at an independent as it was not clamped up) but centre/front section appears fine - can't find a leak anywhere underneath

With demist on in traffic I get as high as a kite without the windows open which gets really good stares when its hacking it down (look! A Nutter!)

Any thoughts????:worship:

Is it definitely exhaust fumage? There's only one joint at the front of the system and if leaking enough to have the effect you describe, it would sound dreadful. However, were the engine breather to have come lose, you'd also smell 'fumes' and feel the effects, but the source is different. Make sure the breather on the top of the cam cover is secure and fed correctly into the airbox, as leaks will make big smells in the car with the blowers on.

The heater fan takes air from the back of the bonnet/bottom of windscreen and any leaks will manifest themselves badly in traffic with the blowers on. I had the same on mine when I tried to be clever with my breather management during supercharger fitting. I though vent to atmosphere would be fine, but I was wrong....!

I am having the same trouble with mine but I don't know how to get it fixed. Please some advice on what I ask for when I go to the garage???

Put your hand over the exhaust pipe at the back

Does pressure build up

Yes, great no big leaks

No, trace where its blowing from

while you do this can someone at the font hear it blowing at the front

No, great the manifold, cat, and exhaust are work as they should

Yes trace the source of the blowing

There are other sources of burning in the cabin

Breather hose (common)
Oil dripping onto the exhaust (common)

You don't say if you have just got the car or had it for some time. If the car is new to you check if the Duck Bills are in situ. Open the bonnet and feel in the area behind the engine underneath the windscreen there should be two plastic water drain vents. If there missing you could be getting engine fumes coming in the cabin through the elongated holes that they are supposed to sit in. Use the search facility top right for Duck Bills and all will become clear.
Good luck. ;)
