Anyone else with a rattly rear disc backplate?
Only rattles when you shut a door or the boot.
Seems that the plate has broken or corroded rather than coming loose.
Not going to fix it, not worth the hassle, just wondered if it's a common problem or not.

Sounds more like a de-laminating Exhaust silencer.
Take a look underneath & checkout the condition of your exhaust.
(Wear good gloves, & watch out for sharp edges!)

Rear disc?...my panda has drum brakes on the back..
If you have drum brakes on the back and he backing plate is broken or split you need to get it fixed since it helps with positioning of the brake shoes;. If you have disks, i think there is no big issue.
What panda do you have?

Definitely the backplate to the rear disc, I've been underneath and "twanged" it, it rattles away good style.
The car's a Cross. 100HPs and 4x4s have discs on the rear. I suppose strictly speaking the rattly component is a shield rather than a backplate, sometimes I can't always find the right words for something!
Could all be my own fault. You see, I insist on driving at 30mph in 4th gear, even though, as my daughter frequently points out, it sets up some deep resonance in the car. Could be that the shield has resonated itself to partial destruction.

You think that the back of your brake disk has "resonated" its self to destruction? Don't think so - the chances of the back of your rear break disc having the exact natural frequency of the car in 4th gear is low, and once you take into account all the damping between the engine and the rear of the car - the strengthening beams, the entire suspension set up etc. even the fact that it is attached to another part of the car, the odds become even lower. 4th @ 30 is fine, 3rd would be a waste of fuel - if you've got serious enough vibration to cause that, get the flywheel checked - assuming it is a diesel.

hi wife has had a 4x4 panda for 6 years. After 4 years it started rattling badly from the rear disc backplate cover. The panda needed new discs and pads anyway and on taking off the caliper and disc the backplate cover fell off, it is held in place by two small bolts which had both rotted and the heads had sheared off. i left the cover off and it has been that way for two years with no problems.

held on by three or four rivets - over time they shear off - once one goes the rest are on their way
