I have been running the Koni sport dampers all round for a couple of months now and very happy with the handling improvement. Recently I've noticed a weird metallic clicking or ticking sound like someone bouncing a pea in a tin can issuing from area of the front offside suspension.

I took it to the doctor today but after checking the strut / camber bolts and changing the front discs and pads (the nominal job I went in for) both I and the mechanic are stumped. The noise is intermittent and seems to happen more when road has constant undulations - smooth and badly potholed roads don't seem to cause it. Best idea the garage could suggest was to live with it in the hope that it gets more pronounced so easier to pin down. It's driving me mad so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Take it to a quiet car park, wind the windows down and drive it in circles on full lock, one way and then the other.
Does it click louder one way or the other?
Could be a CV joint clicking, they do this when worn.

I wonder: is your 'pea in a tin can' the same as my 'golf ball in a metal dish'? See here https://www.fiatforum.com/panda/236891-strange-noise-front-calipers-4x4.html
It passed the MOT OK back in March and I asked them to explore anything that might cause the noise. Nothing appeared to be wrong, and I was told not to worry about it. It's done it for quite a while now, not getting any worse. When the brake pads are next replaced, I'll see if it goes away.

Thanks for both the suggestions. The noise is definitely due to suspension movement and is not rotation dependent so that would appear to rule out a knackered CV joint. The rattling caliper is an interesting one although I have just fitted new discs and pads : I shall see if it gets worse (which would suggest something wearing) and if not ask about this. I'm not too clued up on suspension issues but I'm assuming something amiss with the drop links etc would be more like a knock rather than this metallic noise ?

Worn drop links tend to make a dull clonking noise, more noticeable on smooth surfaces, or as a pronounced noise on driving off a speed bump. An easy test for wear in these is to partially jack a front wheel, just enough to take some of the weight off the drop link. Then, if you grip the link rod you should be just able to turn it. if the joints are worn, it will turn very easily.
