Hi there.
I own a 2005 Panda 1.2 8v.
The wheel light on the dashboard is "ON". Still, the powersteering is working properly even CITY function.

I've scanned the powersteering ECU and found the following error:
C1002 - Steering column motor torque position sensors

The parameters are:
Steering axal position: 0 (always)
Steering column position sensor: Not present
Current absorbed: Too high - this changes for a short while into Normal from time to time.
Ecu voltage: 13.90 - 14
Alternator status: recharging

I would need some advices from you.
Regards.

I had/have a similar problem, one day as I was driving along, the steering light(red) came on. But after I restarted the engine it went out, after some time it came back, and so on, never lost the power steering or city. the next day I took it to the dealer and got it scanned, same error C1002.

This was 3 months ago, they reset the ECU and it I haven't had any problems since. But the problem can only be solved by replacing the upper steering column (the sensor can't be removed form it) i was quoted about 500 euro including labor by the local MD.
The man I spoke to told me that it might be weeks, months or years till the sensor fails for good, and that I can still use it as is safely.
When the sensor fails for good, you will lose all power steering!

This is a common problem with all fiat cars that use this system, the torque sensor fails after some time (btw i have a 2007 panda 1.3Multijet).

Hope this clears it up for you,
Dan

Hi, I have exactly the same problem (also same values from ECU)

I did some searching and found that in Italy they sell the sensor at ebay:
http://www.ebay.it/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=fiat+panda+sensor&_sacat=0&_from=R40
the one with the green wire (in my car at least it is the green one)

and also found this video which is showing how to replace this, not vary complicated at all:

But then... Why everyone here says this sensor cant be replaced?
I'm afraid to buy the sensor and then find out that I cant do anything with it.

I've fixed the problem a year ago by buying that sensor that you've mentioned in the ebay link. I've changed it to a local auto electrical engineer (not at the dealership). They've calibrated afterwards exactly as shown in the video posted by you.

So this solution it's proven to work.
