Hi All,

MOT coming up soon and I need to think about fitting an oil catch tank (currently venting to atmosphere) and I'd rather not put the standard airbox back on, in the knowledge that my induction kit will go straight back on.

So, has anyone done it? I know that it's a simple install, but I'm not sure where's best to locate it (and as such, which size/shape to buy).

Help and advice always appreciated. :)

I've fitted one to my other car, though it's a big diesel that produces quite a bit of blowby.
At first I vented out of it to atmosphere to allow the air intake to dry up, it went for an MOT like this and no one said a word, even though it was steaming out of the bonnet!

There are products available to catch and separate the oil, Hummel Provent is one, though they are fairly hefty items designed for trucks and the likes.

Most of these catch tanks on ebay and the likes are just empty tanks, to effectively trap the oil you need something baffled or other trap, particularly if you're going to plump in back into the intake after the tank.

These's a cyclone filter that is fitted to the Land Rover TDi's that could be adapted, the separated oil can be sent down a long blind pipe to empty later on a service.

Allard do a nice universal tank with a filter

I fitted the bigger VAG TDi one to my Jag Diesel and it works a treat keeping my intercooler and EGR spotless.

There are a few baffled tanks on ebay too

You need to check the intake and outlet pipe sizes, that they match or are slightly larger than what's on your car, as you don't want to create a restriction that'll increase the pressure in the engine.

"Car Builders Sollutions" are a bunch of guys in a barn in Staplehurst, Kent, who run a remarkable mail-order company, check out their catalogue on www.nfauto.co.uk

They started up helping kit-car builders, who go through the frustration of being told a part is on its way but is not actually "on the shelf" when the order is placed...so they decided to fill up a barn full of nicknacks of just the sort of gadgets and gizmos that people need. After doing that, it sort of growed like topsy. You get personal service from a helpful sort, who know how to deliver.

As above , Venting out isnt a failure... Older motors have no pipe to airbox, For example my dads current daily sierra XR4I that just vents from ONE of the rocker covers, Down to the road below via a pipe...

Even that doesnt vent enough oil vapour for it to be obvious. And thats a worn out old cologne v6.

You should have hardly any vapour from a newish car unless your on silly miles or your oil is realy thin
