General 500 abarth engine and box into panda does it go?

Shakey hand man's Panda had to have a portion of his slam panel removed / nibbled away for clearance of the turbocharger but, he did hand pic a turbo to suit his own personal application rather then just go with a stock vl37 or whatever they are on T-jets.

The standard VL units are in my opinion, appear to be rather compact so, maybe, there would be little to no material to be removed to have one of these turbo's bolted up to the engine, best way of finding that out is to get a dimension from an owner of an A500 then see how much room there would be from the slam panel in the Panda.

Although they must still be rarer than hens teeth I think that physically they would fit with a little carving, the wiring would be my greatest fear, I am sure I've read that there is an ECU even for the gearbox, also how do A500 drive shafts differ from P100hp, would they fit the hubs are they the same length? and so many more questions.

Is it true that the A500 gearbox is the same unit that is in the Astra VXR?
Not true. The A500 is the 5 speed (C510) unit. The 6 speed (M20/32) units used in other cars is the one you mean.

The A500 engine and box will go straight in. You would need 500 1.4, 95HP diesel or Abarth hubs and Abarth driveshafts. I test fitted it all into my Panda 100HP last year and bought all the A500 suspension parts, etc. to make it effectively a 500 Abarth with a Panda shell. Then I decided I didn't like modern cars.

All the answers are in there. Anything else you need to know I can answer too, but I don't have the time or inclination to type out the specifics of the electronics side of things unless you have it all on your workbench and come unstuck.

Thanks Lewey, its good to know that someone has done it, or at least some of it - what went wrong for you to decide that you don't like modern cars?
The result I am after is a Panda 100hp with 160hp, still don't know if the A500 set up is the way to go. will follow up your link suggestion now.
Cheers

Ok Lewey, I've read that thread and it hasn't put me off yet.
How far on are you with the project now? Dare I ask.

Is the M20/32 the standard 6 spd from the 100hp if so what did they run in the Trofeo A500 car with 180hp?

That is an expansive question. In the thread I did ramble on quite a lot about how I felt and gave reasons. Basically modern cars are boring and expensive if not wholly suitable for 99.5% of the population.

I stopped the project, sold most of the parts and sold the car 8 months ago. It wasn't because the conversion was too difficult. You must have scan-read!

The box in the 100HP is a C514 as used in nearly all non-turbo petrol FIATs. It is available as 5 or 6 speeds. The Trofeo car uses an M32 (only available in 6 speed) as used in Abarth GPs, Bravo T-Jets and some MultiJet diesel 6 speeders. You will have trouble using the C514 with an Abarth T-Jet due to a lack of suitable clutches. The gear ratios are also far from good for a turbo car.

Scan read!! I missed out the last 7 pages, bloody hell that doesn't bode well for this project. Well I've read it all now.

I kind of get the impression that you were in tears when you wrote this and decided to bin this idea, in fact you nearly put me off.

It may have been duly noted that I am new to this modding game save for the very easy odd V8 into an old landrover or two. I am in the fortunate position of being keen to make this work as basically I would like a A500 in a 100hp body.
One of the reasons I joined the forum was to learn from the masters and hopefully in the future pass on a little gained knowledge, if in fact I actually learn anything for myself.
Also learn to type a message before I get timed out and loose it all and have to retype twice before I think about copying the damn message. I think I should just stick to V8's.
cheers
