Just posted this in the Newbie Central area, but figured it might be worth repeating in the Panda-specific section too:

Hi all,

I have just bought myself a 2008 Panda 100HP. Bog standard, so no Pandamonium Pack or anything, but my experience of it so far has been really good. To be honest, I've been dying to own one for years now, and the opportunity has only just come up, so I'm chuffed!

I'm in South Africa, Cape Town to be exact, and had to go fetch the car in Johannesburg. The 900 mile drive home went even better than expected. At an overall average speed of about 72mph, although I was generally cruising at around 80mph, the fuel consumption was awesome (35mpg) and it was way more comfortable and competent than I thought it'd be.

I've now had the chance to give it a proper punt at sea level, and it's an absolute hoot. Grips to the road like a fly to dogsh*t, and encourages hoonigan antics literally all the time. I know I am going to love this car... a lot!

Cheers,
Larry.

Hi Larry.Well done on your purchase. Did you come back on
the garden route? I've driven it a couple of times now from capetown to pletenburg bay. The roads are a lot better now than when I first went out there (2002). And how many more speed cameras!!!
Did you stop off and do the bungee jump?
My wife's from rylands. Will probably be back home for next years dewali.

No, just drove straight down the N1 through Bloemfontein and Beaufort West. Pretty easy drive bar the time it takes - 14 hours on your own in a car is a long time! Thanks goodness for Red Bull :)

What colour did you get? My brother in law looked at getting a 100hp they are so expensive compared to uk prices. There's a 2010 black one on autotrader is £10400. At least you've got nice smooth roads your way.

It's a blue one. 2008 model with 48000km on the odo. They are difficult to find - I don't think they sold too many here - and are obviously much more expensive than in the UK. Having said that, I got mine for the equivalent of £6100, which isn't too bad considering...

The dealer network is OK. There are 4 Alfa Romeo/Fiat dealers in the Cape Town area. I'm in Milnerton.

that is expensive, we just got the misses a 10' reg 13k miles for £6.5K

Yeah, it's one of the big crappers about living in SA... cars are bleeding expensive, even locally-manufactured ones!
