1.1Active , regularly serviced, 65K, no incidents or work done lately.

over the last couple of weeks there had been an occasional "running on 3" type episode for a few seconds when starting from cold,
revving did not help bring in "missing cylinder",
yesterday I decided to give it new plugs just to see.... ,

when I started it to move nearer my garage it went on 3 cyl's , so I turned it back off to move other cars , came back to it and it just spins over.. NO attempt to fire / run.

All lights extinguish properly, NO issues with CODE - tried BOTH keys.
good battery, fresh fuel , etc.

so I whipped the plugs out and replaced with new,
no obvious issues - all plugs look good / similar if a little sooty compared to the "digestive biscuit" I was expecting.

I spent all day checking the fuel pump ,
general connections , another good battery etc.

I want another go before I have to tow it the 15 miles to nearest specialist,
any ideas what to check..??

the lambda / emissions light has flashed on now as it's been spinning over without igniting the fuel.
do I NEED to take out and clean the 2 x O2 sensors? or will this clear when running on 4..??

would locking / unlocking the car be of any benefit??( haven't tried yet)

I'm tempted to have a check over of the Crank Angle Sensor, any tips..??,
TIA,
Charlie

Think you may be onto something here, have you checked it's sparking?
Use one of your old plugs to see if each lead is firing.

Pull one lead at a time off and put an old plug in, rest the end of it on a metal surface (yet go of it) and crank the engine while watching for a blue, fat spark.

Hi , and thanks,
yes - tonight I towed it over to my in-laws ( better worklights there) put an old plug in a loose lead , and got a decent spark , so I now think it may be the CAS at fault,
presumably I'm getting a decent set of sparks..
BUT without the crank angle sensor 's input - they are in completely the wrong place..,
at least the Yellow emissions / lambda light has gone out again.

Rain-stopped play tonight,
I'll call in tomorrow and see if I can get the Cas off and try and get a value with a meter..I'm NO electrical guru.. but I can hope to find something,

I'll let you know how it goes,
Charlie

I think the OP means the Crank sensor, but they could mean Cam sensor!

I've had the crank sensor pick up swarf and play up on a Scenic before (before I set fire to the rotten POS!)

I'd never had Cam sensor go, but I'd have thought it'd throw up a EML??

Just a thought, but when it through the light up and you thought it was emissions, did you manage to read what code it was?
P0340 may point at Cam sensor
P1336 methinks is Cam and Crank sensors out of syn

If it's sparking, you've got a working crank sensor.

The only reason it would be firing at the wrong time is if the crank pulley was fitted wrong or the belt timing had jumped so the TDC reference was incorrect, but even 120 degrees out it will cough and backfire as if it's trying to start.

If you're sure it's sparking the plugs, is it firing the injectors?- ie, are the new plugs getting wet with fuel?

Hi , thanks for all the helpful replies,
Code reader came out with ; 300,350,+351 ( from memoery),
all pointed towards no spark.. but there was,
so I did plugs and Coil packs just to rule that out,
still no effort to fire.. thinking the ECU had locked out something crucial like fuel,
I towed it to local indy..
Cam belt had jumped 7 Teeth..!!,
changed 2 years ago almost to the day, along with waterpump,
so I assume the belt had stretched / bedded in enough to be able to climb sprockets..,
anyway all fine now and only a cam-belt change to pay for --so all good,

seven years , 70K,
and NO electrical issues - not even a blown bulb,
I'll be buying another panda for sure,
see next post..,
