Hi all, the black plastic panels that run under the front wipers and around the bottom of the windscreen on my 59 plate Active have seriously faded in places almost to a white. It's coming up for it's second year service and i was wondering if this would be something that would be replaced under warranty if i bring it up ?. Thanks for any help

Gtechniq c4 is what you want. The ultimatefinish sells it. It's expensive but I've got it on my trim on the 100hp and it bought it up a treat. Watch the YouTube video as well.

I'm not sure why your's have faded as mine certainly didn't. Given you are within the manufacturer warranty I'd most certainly bring it up.

Just make sure your 2nd year service is within the 2nd year warranty period because if you are late with the service then you'll be on your third year warranty which is next to useless in comparison.

I had a gear lever gaiter changed on my 100hp at my second year service. The dealer said 'oh well you are in your third year warranty period so we wouldn't cover it'. I said 'No I'm not I've still got two weeks to go of my 2 year manufacturer warranty, you didn't think I was that daft did you?'

Anyways got it done under warranty.

Tdq how badly split was yours? Mine is starting to go in a few places I've also go a very shiny nob!!!! Might pay fiat a visit next week.

It just had a slight tear (about 1cm) on the bottom right side of the gaiter where it meets the stick. The car was 18 months old at the time. When I sold the car (May 2011) it was starting to go again.

They didn't change the knob, though mine was fine in that respect, had a very slight scratch on it. Was always dissapointed that the top of the knob wasn't aluminium and is just horribly cheap plastic.

Get it done under warranty, you might as well. (y)

How much for a new gear nob then.

No idea how much a new knob would be. Can't be that much though considering it's just a cheap bit of plastic. Phone your Fiat parts dealer find out.

Or, when you get them to change the gaiter under warranty, you could get a new knob fitted as well, though you may have to pay for it.

Well as it happened i was 9 days outside the 2 yr warranty, but Northgate Fiat in Canterbury changed it under a goodwill gesture so i guess it's good for a couple of more years. BTW when i talked to the service guy, i had only just started to describe it and he was all over it and saying he had had loads of ppl requesting the same thing so i guess Fiat sent out a batch of dodgy plastics or something.

Even as I type this, my 59 reg Eco Dynamic is at the dealers having the plastic scuttle panel replaced under warranty- dealer mentioned he's had several like it. In my case, the black plastic had gone 'milky' in several places.

My 10 plate one still looks new, so could be slightly older ones which are affected?

That said I will check it, because it will be two years old in May.
