Hi all. Im squeak and i have a 10 plate 1.2 panda dynamic, which i love. Unfortuantely i didnt love it so much last week when it got rather hot and i discovered the air con doesnt work! Now i know it was recharged in march when i had the little bugger serviced, but i have a sneaking suspicion about whats wrong. A couple of months after i got it, a small stone made a rather less small hole in the main radiator, and in attempting the repair me and my friend *might* have accidentally discharged the original refrigerant all at once. My question is, what kind of damage could a rapid discharge do and to where? I can only guess, being quite new to owning a car, and i assume i may have damaged a reservoir or perhaps a gasket and that the system is leaking somewhere. Whatever the case, the ac does nothing and im sweating! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just take it to an aircon place and get it recharged. They will test for leaks anyway, so obviously mention that and with the UV dye they use, any leaks ought to be easy to see.

Discharging the refigerant won't cause any damage but you should be aware that if you don't get it sorted soon-ish that the seals will dry and out and potentially perish, meaning it won't hold refigerant.

Have a look at the other thread in here, sadly some of them don't test for leaks, idiots

You and your friend will know if youve accidentally discharged it as it'd have gone with a bang and covered you in refrigerant.

As said just take it somewhere to get it regasses.

It went with a bang alright! Scared the hell outta me i can tell you. I actually didnt write that first post terribly well- the refrigerant was definitely discharged a month or two after i got the car. The guy who dealt with my 12k service a while later said it had been re gassed, but by the sound of it, they didnt check for leaks... So i will take the advice and take it to somewhere that will. Thanks guys/gals :)
