I've googled this topic which lead me to this forum in the first place but the most revealing thread on the topic seems to stop dead without a recommendation. Is this what I need?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-GRANDE-PUNTO-500-PANDA-STILO-LINEA-IPOD-KIT-/260813234878?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb9ae22be
Or will this suffice/work?

It's for an iphone as opposed to an ipod so I'm reluctant to spend big money if it won’t charge the phone as well.
Any other specific links or recommendations gratefully received.

the top item even on Fiat's own accessories site says it wont charge an iPhone as well as several iPods, there are two reviews which back this up the second saying it's a bit iffy at playback as well!

The second item (cable only) I can't see charging the iPhone at all and obviously means having to control the iPhone by hand which even in a cradle is asking for touble in my mind.

I ended up replacing the CD player in my Panda with a £65 JVC one with a USB slot and a 75p black iPhone/iPod cable charges my iPhone and has full control over the music through the headunit.

If you want to keep the built in head the best option would be a Dension Gateway as they do iPhone charging assuming there is a suitable one for your headunit.

Denison gateway, the only one on ebay is £334, so no thanks to that. I appreciate the shortcomings with the lack of charge issue/ I did know that which is why I was baluking at paying £80+ if it didn't do it all. I think if I were to change the head unit I'd go for a Parrot Asteroid which is cheaper than the Denison and had internet access too. Still, I'm just wanting to get tunes throught the radio so even buying an ipod and the first kit would suffice. Just wondering what everyone else is using.

Easiest way to do it is to put a 3.5mm jack lead into the back of the head unit. Available from Blaupunkt. It really is a five minute job.

No functionality whatsoever of course, but you can play music through the AUX.

Search on here for AUX. (y)

If you want any kind of Ipod functionality, really your only option is to change the head unit.

That might do actually. All my songs are on playlists so lack of functionality isn't that big a deal. That said functionality would be nice but I'm not paying throught the nose for it if kits don't charge the phone. Is the Fiat kit really that bad? I've read lots on this forum about the Bluetooth phone system on the panda being poor but mine works great. Voice activated dialing regardless if the radio is on or off and the volume is adequate for me. If the Fiat ipod kit works as well as the bluetooth I'd be quite happy apart from the charging issue.

I've fitted this:

(Can't post links yet tut!)

Works a treat and charges too now just need to decide where to mount the iPod.
Might use something like the Brodit clip.
Cheers.
