Hi everyone

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere on the forum, however...

Have a 05 plate Panda Eleganza, which I have owned for around a week now. All seems fine and am very pleased apart from the fact that when braking, I am getting a quiet - but still audible - grinding sound from the rear wheels.

The car has done 82K miles, and only has a full service history up until 60K, so I suspect some of the key things required at the 72K service may not have been done. My suspicion is that it is to do with wear on the rear shoe assemblies - although breaking seems fine to me, although my previous car didn't have ABS etc, so this may cloud my judgement.

Anyone have any advice on this? I plan to get the 72,000K service schedule carried out in the next couple of months, when funds in the bank account have been restored a wee bit, but would welcome comments as to whether I should act sooner...

Cheers
Chris

DING. Check the rear shoes. It's 'brakes' btw. :p

Thanks for the advice both of you - and pointing out the typo! Now the rear wheels making a noise whilst I was sat in a layby on the A1 having a wee picnic really would be something to worry about... ;)

Took my Panda into the garage as advised (cheers chaps). Fiat Specialists on East Claremont St in Edinburgh. Transpires one of the brake shoes had failed.

Glad to report that I had excellent service from the garage - an independent recommended on the forum. Car was booked in the day after I made my enquiry, problem sorted out without any issue, and the car given a thorough check out (just bought it second hand) - even verifying it had actually had a recent timing belt change. And at a cost which I considered very competative indeed.

The garage is soon moving to a bigger set of premises in Jane Street, Leith - probably because they offer such good service. So if you own a Panda - or indeed any other Fiat and want trustworthy repairs or maintenance carried out, this is the place to go if you are based in or around Edinburgh!
