Hi all,

My Wife has been left a couple of times where the car will not lock itself. 'hatchback open appears now and again when driving along.

I have removed the inner boot lid trim board, to reveal the connecters etc.

Now for the headache.

Last night I disconnected connectors A, and B. (See attached). This de-activated the boot lid. Great I thought, get by for now with the key. Sure enough there was a warning when lights were on that the number plate lights were out... fair enough..

However, today wife went out, still with A and B off, and said it flashed up 'hatchback open' again. So...

I plugged all back in, opened boot lid, turned ignition on all doors except boot shut. 'hatchback open' appears as you would expect. I now remove the lock as there is a wire there that i didn't see (C on attach). I unplugged this, message is still there (I would guess this is the power for the lock motor?). Now i plugged back in and unplugged 'B'. 'Hatchback open' disappears. I will now try and see what happens, but im sure i tried this before, and the message still flickers sometimes...

HELP please!!! Just knowing what each cable does would be a help, but no haynes manual or service manual... Thanks in advance.

Connector 'B' contains three wires - an earth (I think) and 2 that connect to the switch (or maybe two switches?) that is embedded in the latch. This switch operates the boot light and the 'door (boot) open' light. Off the top of my head, I cant recall which is which (or how I worked it out) but on my car the switch was damaged by shutting a coat in the boot latch and I had to cut the wire to get the 'doors open' light to go off. Bear with me and I'll take a look... by leaving the other wire in place, the boot light still works as it should (which is why there may be two switches). It sounds as if you might also have a problem with this switch, which is different to the 'usual' electric boot opening switch issue

Pete

later: plug B has a black, a white and two brown wires. I cut the black wire to stop the 'boot open' warning, cutting it after the plug -- you can just make it out in the photo here: https://www.fiatforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=74792&d=1267919724

Update!!

To confirm, disconnecting plug B does solve the problem. However no boot light either now, which would be good to keep. (Not worried about boot open sensor).

I tried cutting the black wire as suggested. No different. Then I tried one of the browns, no difference, then the other and then both boot light and message disappeared. I have ran out of light now, so will look into again at the weekend, and solve the "which wire does what case!!". It seems odd to me that there seems to be two switches on the boot catch, I fail to understand why this is nessersary, surely one switch could do both message and boot light. In this instance where it is playing up, it is an advantage there is two, as hopefully I can get the boot light working again...

That would be consistant with what I found. Bit of a bummer, as no boot light unless I buy a new boot latch assembly...
