Hi everybody, my front tyres are past there best now at 16000 miles. what ones should i replace them with? skip the ditch finders thank you.

Er, might help if you told us what you drive. If it's a diesel then it might be your driving that needs attention rather than your tyres but I guess it might be something a little more rapid.

No, no, no! Not another 'what tyres are best?' thread! :p

Seriously though, there are several threads on this subject where 10 users give 10 differing opinions.

I am currently running Uniroyal Rainmasters. The previous set of budget/mid-range tyres fitted to the front lasted 28k and only wear more quickly than the rears due to the constant slow-speed manoeuvres that the car has to do.

Thunderbug - Mine are 195/50/15 and there is no noticeable difference. Be sure to inform your insurance company though:

To put it bluntly, that's none of their damn business.

The tyres are within 5% of the original specified circumference, this has been certified everywhere as being within normal variations, hence should require no information to any party whatsoever apart from yourself and the mechanic.

I put 175/70/13 tyres in place of the original 155/80/13 on the standard steel wheels as I couldn't find any winter tyres in the original size. Now I'm on 185/60/14 on alloys. All are within 2% of each other in circumference, my speedo still reads true, I see no reason why anyone else should care what size wheels I put on my car.

The inside edges have gone, it's probably down to my I don't need to brake for corners attitude rather than tracking,I'll get it checked though.

I know that many of you know, but I would choose Michelin or Goodyear. They are too popular but they are really good too. I use them all the time.

Vredestein Sportrac 3s continue to be excellent - just back from two months in Italy. Great in the wet - Italian roads can be very slippery when the first rain for weeks falls on them - Vreds were very reassuring, also drove back in torrential rain almost all the way, lots of standing water and they were great in those conditions - definitely better than the original Goodyears. Also quieter with sharper turn in. Done 4000 miles on them and they appear to be wearing very well.

I think you should all write to fiat and tell them not to waste their money on research and development ....i find that car manufacturers standard size tyres are usually the best standard tyre suited to the basic car that they are fitted on????.as soon as you start to put wider/larger circunference tyres on you alter the geometary of the car.

Why should we listen to Fiat. They obviously have f all idea. I mean they fit extremely poor quality suspension parts to their cars which constantly need replacement.....

They are no better or no worse than other car companies that i know .ive got a few mates who have new cars and most of them have had quite a few replacement parts over the last two years from new? suspension parts as well as steering components.
