Guys,

Just thought i'd do a mini review on a few changes i've made to the 100hp in case anyones considering doing the same.

Firstly, i've replaced the standard wiper arms and blades with Fiat 500 ones, from the day i picked my car up i always thought the stadard wipers were juddery and noisy on the screen, new blades seemed to make no difference. To add to that the arms were corroding and the paint was flaking off, so i couldn't wait to chuck them in the bin! The 500 ones are a good mod imo, the arms are slightly sleeker looking and the lay flat blades look loads better, and most importantly they work brilliantly :worship: the only thing to note is that the 500 arms don't have splines to locate like the panda one's do, but once you've done the nut up tight this isn't a problem.

I've also changed over from Goodyear Eagle F1's to Continental Conti Sport 2's. I worked out i've had five pairs of Eagle F1's on the front and two pairs on the rear so know the F1's pretty well! However they seem to be getting harder to find now and decided i wanted to try something else. At the moment i'm very happy with the Conti's, they are miles better in terms of grip in the wet than the F1's and seem like they may have the edge in the dry aswell, although i need to wait for the weather to warm up abit to really test this, the current feeling is that they offer a significant increase in grip but don't load up as nicely as the F1's, though this may just be me not being used to the tyres yet. Looks wise the tread isn't as smart as the F1's, and they are a squarer tyre, but they don't really have a rim protector which i think makes the sidewalls look alot better, also the chequered flag on the sidewalls looks good. Definately worth considering if your looking at replacing the Goodyears.

Speaking of which i've kept the F1's that came off the back of the car as they still have 4-5mm tread, i'll take £30 for the pair if anyone wants them would would need to be collected. (y)

You could have made life easier on yourself by just fitting some Boch AeroTwin flat blades. They fit straight onto the Pandas OE wiper arms and have a snazzy cover which hides the connector. They work much better than the old school style wiper blades. I paid £24 for a set in a sale from an online specialist.

The aerotwins are so good that they sand down your old wiper blades and power coat/paint them?

Never heard of Hammerite I take it?

I would certainly prefer to fix the standard wiper arms than retro fit some from another model that may fall off.

lol each to their own but the 500 arms look better than the orgininals even if the paint hadn't flaked off and are designed for lay flat blades, they only cost £60 for both arms and the blades so £24 on some lay flats and then painting the old arms would seem abit of a bodge for not a great saving to me.

Sounds good - could you please post a photo? :)

I have Bosch Aerotwin blades already but there is a small amount of corrosion developing on the OS wiper arm [after 85k though!]. I may choose 500 arms when the time comes to replace them.

Yea i'll take some pics when i can and post them up. Thats not too bad then, both of mine were corroded and the paint had flaked off the os after 60k/nearly 4 years.

I just sanded my Corsas down, bought some bacl spray paint from Poundland, bought some primer from a different pound shop and they looked perfect.

I would be interested in taking them off you as I only live in Norfolk so it wouldnt be too much of a journey for me either! (y)

Here you go Ian, as requested.. and another pic just because the sun was out (y)

I'll refrain from comment on the embellishments to avoid hurt feelings, but I'd be interested in how the Contis are behaving now you're used to them as I'm close to changing tyres on the 100HP.

haha don't worry about it, i've done what i've done for me not anyone else, so i appreciate it's not everyones cup of tea ;-) In regards to the conti's i'm loving them, i'm currently messing about with tyre pressures but 30-31 hot and 29-30 on the back seems about right, i was running the fronts at 33 hot but found you get a smidge of understeer on turn in on faster corners, it's very slight but still, this dissapears once you take a few PSI out. Likewise any less than 30 in the back makes the rear too planted imo but then again i felt the same about the f1's on the last point.

I havent changed my opinion in terms of grip, i still think the conti's offer more than the f1's, but still not convinced they offer the same level of feedback, i found with the goodyears when cornering hard you could actually hear the tyres were loaded up and digging in if that makes any sense, past this came tyre squeal as a final warning. The conti's possibly don't offer this same level of feedback, but at the same point it may be i still havent found the limits! i still get the rear moving around under braking, but the front just grips and grips seeimngly under no stress at all!.. on the whole i prefer them and do see them as a step forward over the f1's, and i expect i'll be able to bring even more out of them with the revised suspension i'm planning. However that being said looking at the car as a total package in terms of it's suspension ability and braking i think the f1's were a spot on choice by Fiat for the standard car, matching grip and chassis capability almost perfectly.

Oh and as i final point, not something i give two monkeys about but others might, i would say the contis offer a marginally better ride.
