I was working on replacing the gearbox on a 2008 Fiat Panda 1.2 8v, and at the same time had the same fault on a 2003 Fiat Punto 1.2, after taking out both gearboxes and whilst waiting for spare parts to arrive to the workshop, we noticed that both gear boxes are the same, so out of mechanical interest we swapped them round and Yes they fit they are the same along with the engine they are the same, 1.2 8v,
only difference between the panda gearbox and the punto gearbox is the gearbox mounting bracket / arm, they are the same except the punto has a M12 stud and the Panda has a M12 bolt, which either way is an easy swap,

also we Noticed that the brake calipers and pads are also the very same,
something to think about when buying spare parts, __________________

We also noticed that, the front Hub, wheel bearings, Hub nuts are also the same. along with ignition leads, spark plugs oil filter all the same fitting, But please note they are a different price,
A different price for the same part, More expensive if yoy say for the Panda than the Punto,
ie Fiat reccomend Fram oil filter, from Fiat for the Punto 5.99 for the Panfa 9.88 and they are the same part code.

Although the gearbox casing my be identical are you sure the ratios are the same? I thought the ratios changed according to the model. For example didn't the pre Eco Pandas have different gear ratios to the older ones?

This could be an interesting thread though, a list of what parts for the Punto will fit the Panda. Would certainly make servicing a lot cheaper!

I found a similar thing on a laptop I had to replace the screen on recently, you have to get the exact part but the part was more expensive depending on what make it was being sold for even if the part was identical right down to the manufacturers product code.

Yes, it is handy. It won't come as a surprise to seasoned FIAT'ers on here and if you read any modding threads, you'll see these things are often discussed. The gearbox is called the C514 and is fitted to every "FIRE"-engined FIAT since around 1994 up to present day with Grande Puntos, 500s and the like. So that is 1.1, 1.2 & 1.4 8 and 16 valve petrol models. Lots of boxes to choose from, but there are quite a few gearsets out there. Go by engine size, era and model type (sporting or non sporting) on the whole.

What about suspensions? I'm having trouble finding suspension parts here for my panda. Surprisingly, loads of Punto's here tho...

I guess my car is as rare as the animal itself! :p

Sorry to be digging this topic, but I have a problem on my 2003 Panda 1.2 8V.. I wanted to swap the gearbox, because the lifetime of mine's is over. But I found the problem, that my clutch uses cable, and Punto's use an hidraulic system..

How can I find a gearbox that fits 100% in my Panda (excluding from a Panda, because there are not many crashed Pandas here) ??

Thanks a lot guys..

One certain thing I've noticed, my previous Panda '04 1.2 gear ratios were different to that of my mums Grande Punto '08 1.2. Her ratios were shorter, although the boxes looked the same.(y)

Well, a heavier car with the same engine will need those ratios to get moving like the Panda.

It's not so much of a problem. You can take the Punto box and swap the clutch fork lever over and top casing where the gear change shaft goes. This is simply a circlip on the lever and 5 bolts on the case top. You will need a bit of instant gasket for when you put the new lid on. If you are contemplating a gearbox swap anyway, this would not be the hardest part of the job.

I bought a Punto 75's gearbox, so I hope it will fit.

I own a 2005 panda 4x4 with the 1.2 engine. I would like to know if the 1.3multijet diesel wil fit on these gearboxes?
