When I pushed the central locking open/lock button my boot would also either unlock or lock....all of a sudden it will only unlock when I push the actual boot unlock key on the keyfob.

I have 3 buttons on fob, open, close and boot unlock..

Any ideas as it is really annoying.

There is a switch in the boot itself, this is a very common problem. That will need replacing. No idea how much ti will cost but I can't imagine it being a big job.

The boot switch is part of the black handle so the whole handle needs to be replaced. They are around £50 and fitting it is quite straight forward.

thanks for all the suggestions, however surely if the switch needed replaced, the actual 3rd key fob button specfically for boot opening would not work either?

Could it be a loose wire going into the switch or the lock at all?

Switch is separate to the boot lock popper. Hence remote unlocking it ok. Sounds like tailgate switch failure.

Did you fix it? Was it the wiring or the switch?

I'm due to take my 500 into the dealer tomorrow at 9am, been told if its the wiring it's not covered on the warranty, so I'm hoping it's the switch.

This happened to mine. Switch itself was fine, it was the plastic handle that no longer activated the switch. No amount of bodging would get the overly compliant plastic of the handle to activate the switch so I moved the switch itself to a position operable directly by my finger. I now prod the switch directly to release the boot. It's quite secure as the switch is only live when unlocked.

Ditto - same happened to me in that when I bought the car the boot-button on the fob doesn't do anything - handle opens it though.

Mine was unlocking fine but had I trouble getting the handle to operate the release properly. Sometimes it wouldn't work at all.

I took the whole black plastic mechanism off and cleaned it thoroughly. It only takes a few mm of movement of the grab handle part to operate a microswitch to activate the release and it got all gunged up. Works fine now.
