Hi,

I own a 100HP since 2007. My first clutch began to slip after 20000km....
It was changed under guaranty...
But now, my car has 48000km and this clutch fail again and fiat said me they don't understand why the clutch fail like this.... but it will not be taken under guaranty this time...

I must say that this is not my first car, I know to use a clutch. And my car is always on highways: not so hard for the clutch...

So my question is: do we know a regular problem on fiat clutches? Or another problem on the clutch system to explain this failure?

thank you and sorry for my english.

Thank you for your messages.
I also think that the problem comes from clutch system but th guy from fiat said he cannot find the problem and will change de clutch for the second time...
I am afraid it ll happen again in 20000km..

Too bad because I like my car and I bought a new one to be quiet with problems...

I had a new clutch fitted to mine after a year as it would shudder first thing in the morning on cold winter days, started again last winter, but as Fiat won't replace it now, get on with it

The only problem I've had with mine was a leaking clutch master cylinder that was replaced by Fiat and I know a couple of other people on here have had the same problem so might be worth a look?

Does the clutch bite right at the very top of the pedal travel? A clutch slips either because the lining is worn - unlikely at these mileages - or because it's contaminated with oil either from the gearbox or the engine - both possible - or because the mechanism is preventing it from engaging fully (hence the question about where the clutch bites) - either a faulty mechanism - the withdrawal mechanism itself not working properly, or the diaphragm not applying enough pressure via the pressure plate, or damage to the splines on the gearbox input shaft.

It's very odd as a complete clutch change would eliminate most of these and you'd imagine that a competent mechanic would notice any of the others, specially if the lining was contaminated.

Thanks all for the advices.

babbo_umbro, the first solution was the good one: this is a leak and oil from gearbox goes on the clutch. The mecanic man found this after he opens to change the clutch.

I am happy they found the problem this time.... All is taken under guaranty.
Good news for me! I hope I ll enjoy my 100HP many years now. (y)

The clutch in my MJ shudders a bit on cold morning as well, giving it a bit more gas when setting off softens it a bit. It's perfectly normal on a lot of cars :)

Don't worry about it, after all it goes away within a minute or two of driving anyway.

my first car's clutch was terrible. you could plant your foot and dump the clutch and the wheels wouldnt spin, the engine would hold at about 4500rpm and id pretent it was launch control.

maybe doing that caused the crap clutch but either way, launch control

Hmmmm I wonder if dropping the clutch knackered it.... :ROFLMAO:

I'd disagree. 7+ cars in the household, and the only car that does it is the Auto with the Selespeed gearbox, which I expect from a computer controled clutch tbh.

All other cars don't suffer from it ;)

Exactly what I though :p

Don't agree it's normal. Could be a slightly out-of-true clutch plate.
