Changed front discs and pads on 1.2 Dynamique '06 - OEM EBC pads and QH discs. Only prob at the time was that one of the caliper pin retainer clips pinged off into a space/time warp, never to be found again, and I had to put a small split pin in. Thumped the pins with hammer to get them out and in. Everything seems pretty tight but perhaps v slight wobble on the left caliper? - can't tighten the bolts anymore however. Now get a squeak on turning (intermittently) - mainly sharp right turn. Don't think the split pin is impingeing on the wheel. Brakes squeak too, on light application. Any ideas?
Cheers

new brakes need to be bedded in, avoid violent braking unless unavoidable.

give it a few days and in the meantime try and renew the bit you lost with the correct item

Calipers and pistons need a good clean and backs of pads along with edges that contact the caliper need a light smear of copper grease.
Hub to disc surfaces need to be thoroughly cleaned to avoid abnormal disc runout.
Pin retaining clip can be ordered from Fiat dealer and should be replaced.
New discs must be thoroughly cleaned with meths before installation.
Ideally, once disc is in place you should check runout and, if excessive, turn disc by 180 degrees and check again.
If pins need to be hammered out, use a rubber mallet or block of wood between hammer and pin. Very lightly lubricate pins with copper grease before re-installing.
Not saying you didn't do any of these things, just giving general advice for trouble-free pad and disc fitting.

Hi
Thanks but yes I did most of that. The split pin seems to do the job but I will get the proper clip.
It's that it now squeaks on steering that I can't fathom. What, to do with the brakes, could that be?!

Steering alters the direction of forces on the wheel bearings, so may be pushing the disc into contact with the pads where before there was slight clearance. This contact is producing the squeak that you also notice from disc to pad contact on light braking.
EBC pads have a special coating to bed them in on the discs. This may be causing the squeak. If so, once the coating is worn away the squeak may disappear.

Hi
Resurrecting an old thread as the problem has stayed - namely squealing sometimes on turning despite having done a few thousand miles. This was after I changed the discs and pads myself with advice from here.
I also got an advisory on the recent MoT i.e. '3.7.A.2d' for the front brakes. It reads [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]- 'The braking efforts at the roadwheels do not reduce at about the same rate when the service brake is released gradually'. Tester's conclusion was that 'it would appear the brake system needed adjustment or repair'.
What could have gone wrong?! I checked the parts were Ok and they all fitted.
The brakes work OK to me. There's no judder on braking. The only thing I did of any force was bash the pin out with a club hammer. I did have to force the piston back but tried to do it evenly and as gently as poss. The pads were seated OK. The discs just fit on and the suraces were clean. If I take it to a brake place they'll probably just say I need a new everything. Any ideas?
I did not check disc runout as that seemed a bit complicated!

Strangely enough, I am experiencing the exact same problem but I have not changed anything since new (59 plate) ??
