I have a panda 4 x 4 and I have noticed that the radio keeps switching itself on and draining the battery. I have tried all sorts of combinations in turning it off. Has anyone come across this? Know how to fix it?

Thanks

So I bought a used 2005 panda, only advice the owner gave me was to disconnect the radio when not in use. He said that if you leave it in, it will drain the battery flat overnight! They bought a new battery and only realised afterwards that it was a radio issue. Sounds quite a dramatic problem for such a minor cause - also something I could easily forget to do, so I'm looking for a solution!

Just wondering how to fix this? Another post on here says "reset to factory settings" - how do you do that, is it straightforward, in the manual?

Hi,
not come across it ,(specifically the panda / tape deck)

BUT a cheap aftermarket head unit( radio/CD)
would sound sensible.(y)

DON'T buy somebody else's ex-panda FIAT radio..as it will ask for the CODE every time you power it up,

Hi I had the same sort off issue on a 2005 Diesel Panda the radio would turn its self on around 5 minutes after locking the car. I found out that if a CD was left in it didn't do it. Its worth a try. When I bought a Fiat Sedici and sold the Panda I forgot to tell the new owners about the problem and left the wife's CD in the car she was not happy.

Dragging this out of the cupboard and blowing the dust off it.....I saw this reply and decided to try it out for myself. Just before turning off the engine I selected CD, then turned the radio off followed by the engine.

It seemed to work until one day I came out to the car and found the battery was flat as the witch's proverbial. It wouldn't respond to several attempts to bump start it as I couldn't get jump leads or a battery pack. Leaving a number of my neighbours lying, gasping in the street waiting for an ambulance I called the AA.

When the man in the yellow van turned up I told him about the posessed radio that would burst into life in the middle of the night but he expressed doubts that it would be able to completely flatten the battery overnight. I was also a little puzzled as the battery was only just two years old. When he checked it for condition he reckoned that it was indeed kaput, but also, when checking his book for to see if he had the right battery on the van, he didn't, he noticed that the one fitted by my friendly local spares shop was rated at 360 amps. The correct one should have been 480!

He went and got a new battery and, for some reason, the fault hasn't reared its ugly head again. The battery retailed at £85 but with my AA warranty, only cost £35 which they invoiced my for, so I didn't even have to pay for it there and then.

Lol my radio mainly seems to have a huff and turn itself on whenever I use the cd player at some stage during the day. Means that whenever I drive outside the range of my favourite radio station, I need to find another station to listen to or live with the consequences for a week or two till it settles itself again. During this time it will also decide to randomly change itself between tuner and cd and changer. It'll also do this on hot sunny days too from time to time. Good job I live in Northern Ireland as I don't get troubled by that many hot sunny days! :)

(Northern)Irish clouds have silver linings:D

They have a little bit of snow today as well. Good job I decided to change my Panda to winter mode on Wednesday. Winter wheels on and ready for it!

Thanks for sharing your rain with us today, although the Scots got the benefit of it first. That's what I like about the Ulstermen.....Ulsterwomen.....Ulsterpeople? Always generous. :)

Well when you've got plenty of something (like rain for instance) it's good to share it around! But that's one good thing about the weather here. You just wait for 5 minutes and it'll change. Unfortunately for me, that's usually coinciding with the moment I'm the furthest away from my office when it starts raining when I'm out for my lunchtime walk!

In mid Wales it rains every fifteen minutes for a quarter of an hour.
Guess all you foreigners are being generous with your left-overs!

I feel I must say, to all the Celts on here, that while we English really appreciate your largesse, we do feel that you have been generous enough with the rain and you really should keep some for yourselves. Because of the real and present danger that you might actually run out of rain, and therefore, water, I urge you all to think of yourselves for a change.

If you look at people in Eire, they are far more conservation minded and hang on to their rain, so please, for your own sakes, take a leaf out of their book. Please, to all those in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, keep hold of your precipitation, after all, you may need it for a.....er, well, erm, what I suppose you could call a rainy day.

Thank you for taking the time to read this appeal on behalf of all those who are struggling to find enough rain.

Oh Mr Beardy, we in Northern Ireland have such a generous heart and as such, we really can't help but share things around. I would like to reassure you not to worry as we really have plenty of precipitation to share around. I believe our reservoirs are quite full so we can keep our generosity up! :D

Today was a good day. It lashed all morning so myself and the young lad donned our wet gear for the zoo. It managed to dry up for a while and we managed to get about 90% of the way around the zoo before the rain started at full pelt so not a bad day at all.
