Following an exchange of PMs with forum member Airlog back in December 2008 he booked his car in for some work this week.

I didn't take any 'Before' pics as we had quite alot of work to do in the space of 3 days, but here is a library picture of how it looked standard:

The brief was to strip and powdercoat the alloy wheels, paint the brake hub gloos black, the callipers gloss read, seal the alloys with wheel wax once they had been refurbed, apply a light tint to the front two windows in order to give a more graduated look from front to back, and smoke the rear lenses. The lenses were done by removing them from the vehicle, masking off the bottom section, painting them with a water based paint - being careful not to cover too much of the light and then lacquering them once dry to get a glossy finish.

Here's the 'Afters':

Nice (y)

Liking the light tint, blends them into the windows nicely (another job to add to the list)

I noticed the Italian fags on the front wings too, wonder where I've seen them before ;)

Wonder what my wheels would look like powder coated white...

Same colour as my 100HP - I've been wondering about having the wheels toned down - I think I'd have gone for wheels to match the bodywork - these look too dark to me.

Arse, that's exactly what I've been trying to get done to mine for about 6 months but have found everyone locally completely useless at coming back to me with an accurate quote.

How much did this lot cost if you don't mind me asking?

Looks great BTW!

Who is going to pay the fine when he gets nicked for insufficient light transmission through the front windows?

The wheels look nice contrasting with the grey paintwork. However, I wouldn't want all the extra badges and logos - and get rid of the sodding dealer sticker in the rear screen - kind of ruins things.

very nice, however i wonder what the light levels on those front windows are now the tints have been applied?

i was under the impression, that since they had the AS2 mark on them, they already had maximum permissable tint applied, and any further would take them past the limit.

Yep as far as I am aware you are correct..wouldnt want to be the owner when the boys in blue nab him..:)

Police are hot on this where I am..

I think that it looks the dogs danglies. (y)

I think we have had the tinted windows whinging thread before when I was slated. so lets not do that again! :bang:

Not whinging at all, just pointing out that anyone driving the car will be liable to a fine.

i think you need to look at the thread again, and point out where this whinging is. all i see is the offence of excessive tints being pointed out.

and i don't think it's a three pointer either(y)

would get stopped, takes a lot to get nicked from there, and a very intresting question you pose.....should the installer who contravenes legislation be fined, as well as the person using it....?

this doesn't carry points, just a fine.

As far as I know there is no way to prosecute a company for deliberately putting their customer at risk of a fine. Even when, as is so often the case, they mislead the customer by telling them the tints are legal.

First off thanks once again to Harry and his team for a result that surpassed my expectations and for helping me source an alternative hire car at short notice. Fair point to DavePanda100 - the Italian flag idea was nicked from you :D
Thanks then for the (mostly) positive reviews - I will remove the dealer decal without any further delay. A further idea I've had is to add a subtle red pintstripe on the upper body crease from headlight to taillight - think a little bit of red would set it off.
As regards the tints - Harry did take the time to warn me of the potential implications so in this case the vendor is not implicated - but I'm once again pleased with the way the windows now merge and stop giving the car the 'van' look.
Finally as Harry has mentioned in his trader's section - if the customer is happy then he has received value for money - I'm very happy with the deal I received and would recommend the Auto Werks without hesitation.
