Hi,

I am installing some new ICE and I am ready to wire up my amp. I have a Fiat Panda 1.1 Active. Ive had a look around but cant locate any easy access to feed the 8AWG power wire for my amp.

Here are some pics below at what im seeing:

Any suggestions or experience of being able to do this on such a vehicle?

Thank you

My Panda has one just above the pedals. This is on a danish car, so in the left footwell, about 20-25 cm up.

Hold on, I'll go grab a picture...

EDIT: As you can see from the first picture, it's right above where the accelerator is on a LHD car. If you kind of follow the curve of the center console back on the left side, under the dash, that's where it is. You may have to remove some material below the glove compartment to see it.

The second picture shows where to find it under the bonnet, just follow the red and black wires, they're the power leads for my sub :)

The grommet is right above and to the left of the brake booster.

Hi Kozmo,

I had a look and mine is not the same. There is very little space in foot pedal area and there is no grommet. Seems my Panda my differ slightly from yours?

Thanks very much for replying and posting pictures. Very kind of you. (y)

Thanks

Nick

Is your car LHD or RHD?

If it's LHD it has to be above the accelerator pedal, unless your car is significantly older than mine (2008) and Fiat changed the design along with the change to red badges.

Laverda and KosmoNaut are both working with left-hand drive cars. Models with right hand drive like Copplemeister (I think!) have the pedals in the right hand footwell (obviously) but there is a metal bar that links across to the left hand side to operate the brake system (that remains on the left for all Pandas). This bar passes across the area where this grommet is, so preventing it from being seen or used.

i hav a RHD 2004 panda dynamic, i just drilled a hole in the bulkhead from behind the battery into the passengers footwell and got a grommit from halfords.
I'll post a pic for you.

OK guys took the plunge today and drilled a hole. I removed the plastic bit at the bottom of the windscreen (whatever its called) which was easy as its only held on with 3 screws and a number of clips which slide onto the bottom of the windscreen. I also removed the wipers which are only held on with a nut each under the plastic covers so i could completely lift of the plastic. You need to let the bonnet down slightly to release the plastic completely - be careful as the washer jets are connected on the bottom of this (you can detach the pipe before removal - it attaches at the front of the plastic on the driver side and is black). Then i simply drilled a pilot hole were i roughly wanted the wire to come through on the other side. The first attempt wasnt a success as i think there was a weld where i was drilling but the second time i went straight through. I checked i was happy with the location of the hole and that i wasnt going to drill into anything then made the hole the correct size for my grommet. I just used the one that came with my wiring kit which is not much bigger than the cable itself. Routed the cable down the main wiring channel on the left hand side which was really easy as the 2 peices of trim are only held on with 1 screw each. Audio cabling runs down the centre under the carpet (which required a wire coathanger to get it under) and comes up under the odments tray/power socket. The central trim around the gearstick is only held on with 4 nuts btw. Then put a cut into the carpet on the left hand side to hide the wires as they came out under the passenger seat. I used the rear most bolt of the centre trim as my grounding point after sanding a bit of the paint off. Quite a straight forward job really and no harder than changing the speakers on the panda. Most time consuming bit was feeding the wires under the carpet and drilling the hole. Really pleased with the result but next step is to sort out some more deadening on the doors and improve my speaker mounts.

Just left of the brake servo.
It comes thru to the right of the heater blower in the N/S footwell
i did hav 2 cables (2 amps) but took the sub out to put in other car

Cheers ScottishGuy. Thats where i was originally gonna go thru - the missing insulation makes it stand out as a good spot lol. Went much further up in the end which meant taking bits off but im really pleased with the result. Will try get pics up when i find my camera!

excellent information dudes.... i need to run high power in to the cockpit direct from the battery (fused in line) for radio transmitting equipment (no not a taxi, I am a radio amateur!)

great guide many thanks (y)

This awesome, looked around a few time to put a wire through.
I need a power wire in the trunk for my sub woofer mono amp.
Now i know how to get in from the engine bay through the firewall.

One question though.

Is that hole open like that, or did you remove something. ?
btw, would it not be better to put the fuse inside the car near the amp. ?

I saw your private message and reasoned I'd better come out of hiding, considering I have a fair bit of automotive electronics experience ;)

In the case of my car, the rubber grommet was already there. I just poked a small hole in it with a screwdriver and pushed the wires through.

You always (always!) want fuses to be as close to the battery as possible, for safety reasons and to protect in case of a short in the wire. If an unfused connection is shorted, your battery could catch on fire. Usually, there is a fuse inside the amp as well to protect it separately from the battery.

Thank you so much for the info, and your picture will be of great help.(y)
I finally can start with my sub install. ;)
