hi panda people :)

I have one of the 1368cc 16v engines in my cinquecento, and am just wondering what oil you guys use in your engines. My old engine was very happy with magnetec 10w40

Picture of engine bay is not terribly clear - but that looks very like a single cam (?1108cc) FIRE engine to me. How easy is it to squeeze the 1368 with wider twin cam head into the Cinquecento engine bay?

5w40 is only thinner than 10w40 when cold, leading to better lubrication until the engine reaches operating temperature, at which point both oils are of equal viscosity.

The best oil for the 100hp engine would be a fully synthetic 0w40, if you're willing to pay for it, and for the marginally better lubrication over say, a 5w40.

the fully synth 0w40 was bordering on double the price of the 10w40 magentec, so i went with the magnetec.

the stock engine in a cinquecento is the 1108cc single cam engine. It is a squeeze to fit the 16v, but it's doable with the right bits and some help off the angle grinder :D

Yes - I know what engine the Cinquecento Sporting has - I was pointing out that the original picture of the engine bay still has that engine in it. Second pic is more convincing and car must be a real bolide.

yeah, the smaller pictures are my sig images. i wasn't posting them to show the engine bay. That engine bay picture is old, hell it's still single point injection and i binned that 2+ years ago. Car isn't on the road yet (awaiting supersprint exhaust manifold) but when it's done, it's going to be fun :D

That's what I use - Mobil 1 0w-40. No downsides to it at all.

Yes and no. 0w40 and 10w40 are the same viscosity at 100'c, but unless driven hard you won't really see 100'c on the oil - so it will be thinner at normal working temps. Also the 'better lubrication when cold' is moot point. It may flow more easily when colder, but if this provides more protection or is actually any better depends which engineer you talk to.

Splitting hairs a bit really I suppose, and we've been here before. A lot. So I won't comment any further.

We use that in the Integra (mainly because it revs so high and oil works the VTEC system), but I must admit i'd wince about putting oil that expensive in the panda.

Funnily enough I checked the oil on mine today, to discover it's about a 2/3rds full. So I guess I ought to put some in over the next week or two. Was thinking about just getting some magnatec. A fiat dealer is way too far away for me to drive over to them to buy a litre of oil.

I work in the trade and have an account with Mobil so it only costs me about a fiver a litre, hence why after 11,000 miles it's already been changed three times!
