Technical Panda Cross 4x4 System Failure-Update

I was about to resurrect one of these threads... My cross has started showing the "4X4 mode unavailable". The solenoid/valve was replaced last January (like Paul I've yet to see any recall notice). It's already due to go to the garage on Friday for a recurring engine management fault (reading low fuel pressure last time) so with luck this may get sorted at the same time, I've told them the part that was replaced last time. Chris, from memory the part is about 40mm square by 15mm deep with a plunger coming out of one corner & a connector on the other side. Neil.

Pete, that's interesting. The system may be similar to that developed by Haldex but I don't think it is supplied by Haldex. I'll investigate.

Neil, the part number for the solenoid valve is: 55228875

The Campaign Notice 5396 refers to chassis numbers between 1172388 and 1356799. The fault is blamed on the water penetration inside the solenoid valve due to non-compliance from an outside supplier. The notice is dated July 2009 and it's possible that when they replaced the valve last january they replaced it with one from the same manufacturer. New valves should be up to spec. Paul

Resurrecting an old thread instead of starting a new one...

My Panda cross had the solenoid replaced when it returned to the dealer for trade-in in July this year when they discovered it hadn't been done. The original solenoid had not failed.

They then sold to car to me and the new solenoid has failed 4 months later :( Good job the car came with a warranty.

So the Fiat dealer has confirmed that the solenoid has failed. Despite having it in writing that genuine Fiat parts, if fitted at a Fiat dealer have a 24 month warranty, Fiat are declining to pay. I can see a solicitors letter going in their direction. My first experience of dealing with Fiat: not great.

The dealer on the other hand (Cowans at Tranent) have been very helpful.

Well, I complained to Fiat and they decided to pay, so the solenoid has now been replaced under warranty :slayer:

Another revival of an old thread. My 2008 Panda Cross that I bought secondhand started the "4x4 unavailable" messaging yesterday. One trip to a dealer and my car is due a new solenoid as part of the recall. Booked in for early January......
