Question MJ Service interval

Hi All

We've had our 07-plate MJ for a couple of months now. It had 11900 miles on when we bought it and I assumed that it is serviced every 12k miles.

Iis this the case?

Also what sort of servicing costs can I expect to pay?

Thanks.

Its all in your Owners handbook fella! Costs vary dealer to dealer TBH so a bit of research will be good.

Re: MJ Service interval

It needs to be serviced every 12 months or annually so worth checking the service history to make sure it wasn't done as part of the sale. Cost varies but 100-150 seems the typical range (it'll be around 20 quid more if you have air con as the pollen filter needs changing)...

Re: MJ Service interval

I was about to ask the same question about service intervals, you've saved me the job. I always thought 12k or once a year, whatever comes first, that's what it says in the handbook but i heard some people do it more often which only adds confusion. I'm just wondering now if i should be doing mine soon as it was a pre reg (last day of 2007) so was probably sitting around for a month or two...

If its been sitting around for a month or two I really wouldn't worry about that. Most cars considering they are transported will have sat around for at least some period.

Just stick to the recommended service interval, I really wouldn't worry about doing extra services.

Re: MJ Service interval

The manual for my Multijet Panda says every 20.000km or 12 months, but also has a service specified every 30.000km or 18 months.

Resulting in service at 20K, 30K, 40K, 60K, 80K, 90K, 100K and so on...

Re: MJ Service interval

Re the service costs I called round quite a few dealers today re the upcomming first service. Almost all dealers quoted 166 for a MJ with Air-con with the exception of the dealer who I purchased it from who quoted 205? I querried the price and got it down to the same price as the rest of the dealers and booked it in for Mon as there are a few warranty issues needing resolved as well........

SO

Do call about as the price is apparently fixed by Fiat and anyone going above this is taking the pi$$.....

Re: MJ Service interval

We bought our MJ from Perrys in Aylesbury, one of the early red-badged models, just over a year ago now. Our extras were a solid colour, the aircon pack and the sliding rear seat and later added a leather-rimmed steering wheel.

As she was due her first service, I checked the price at Perrys - 212

Ahem! I then rang Thames FIAT in Slough who said around 200. Went ahead and the final bill was 188 including aircon filter.

Very impressed with the build quality. NO squeaks or rattles and NOTHING needed done under warranty and I am picky!

Well done FIAT.....

Any annoyances? Just one. Our Panda Dynamic was delivered with black C posts and body-coloured B posts. Looks naff and smacks of penny-pinching. Excusable on the base model Active but NOT on the only two wheel drive diesel Panda model available in the UK.

I even wrote a personal letter to the MD of FIAT UK about it but did not receive a reply.

NOT so well done FIAT.....

Re: MJ Service interval

Well had the MJ serviced at County Motors carlisle and true to their word it was exactly 170 as quoted, They fixed all the rattles and replaced the front badge and are arranging the tailgate to be fixed. Only gripe was they didn't wash it I can't at the minute as I had a back opperation recently and can't carry a bucket of water and I refuse point blank to use a drive through ever and they forgot to reset the service milage on the on board computer. They did however give the inside a good brush up.

They were excellent....courteous, friendly and helpfull and supplied a spare lt of oil for free for topping up.

Having replaced the front badge on collecting the car I noticed the rear is starting to go the same way maybe a bad batch of the first red ones where water is ingressing behind the red part making it look like there is two different colours so will need to get that looked after soon.

I also noticed that the ecconomy has increased after the service, on collecting I drove from Carlisle to Aberdeen then Fraserburgh and back to Aberdeen before refilling I didn't need to as it was still well over the 1/4 tank.

Just check exactly how much oil you have been charged for...

I had a service at county motors and they charged me for 5 litres!

when questioned they said "yes, we give you a free litre to top up"

"thank you" says i, "but its not free i have paid for it , it only holds 3 litres!
you have charged me for 5, `gave` me 1 and kept one i have paid for for yourself"

I went to see the manager and he apologised and supposedly was going to contact other 1.3 fiat engined fiat customers that they had serviced and refund them

I also contacted fiat uk and informed them

oh, and btw not only did they charge me for 5 litres of oil when it takes 3 but they gave me the wrong oil to top up with!!!

check your bill!!!

Re: MJ Service interval

First thing I did was check the bill (I am scottish you know )

I've always had a very good relationship with them and they have always seemed to bend over backwards.

When my daughter bought a punto from them they were also very good with any waranty work.

Out of interest how much oil were you charged for?

I am interested in your "free" litre, it only requires 3 litres to change

Re: MJ Service interval

Your correct, I was thinking that the sump held 3.75lt but was thinking in classic panda money.

I was charged for 4lt so not overcharged but not free either so I suppose I can't complain as I wanted a top up lt handy BUT not at dealer prices.

BUT on thinking about all of this, Fiat say the service prices are fixed so if you are paying the same and getting a lt of oil it must be free OR included in the overall price. There must be a bit of artistic book-keeping?
