Surely the Fiat Panda is now Britain's cheapest new car? You can get a basic 1.1 active now BRAND NEW (pre reg to clear) with 8 miles on the clock for £4981. This is such a good car for the money, agree? It has to be the UK's cheapest car.

I remember a few years ago the Perodua Kelisa was Britain's cheapest car at £4700, but it wasn't something you'd save your money up for! I test drove one brand new and the Panda is like a Rolls Royce in comparison. At this price you could afford a brand new car every year, never mind every 3!

I was actually having a discussion about the cheapest cars the other day, after cycling past a cityrover. I think they are priced cheaper than the cheapest panda I believe......although I'm not 100% sure as I only read up on the 100hp.

And.....the Panda it a better car in everyway (y)

yea they were built in India by Ta-Ta, old Peugeot engine and all round drum brakes! absolute heap! sorry, sometimes i know too many things about too many cars...

That is pretty sad ;)

It's better to know a little bit about everything that only knowing a lot about one thing!!! imho

City Rover ceased to be sold when MGRover hit the wall.

Absolutely sure the 1.1 Active is the cheapest new car in Ireland, 10995 list. Checking the motor industry union price list now though.

edit:
Kia Picanto is the same list price.

Toyota Aygo 1.0 is 10,550
Pug 107 10895
Citroen C1 10850
But these are all the same car, and are a horrific 3 pot 1.0l petrol.

And they're all beaten by the 9,995, 800CC Chevrolet Matiz....

I think "cheapest desirable new car" might be more accurate!

Sorry i forgot to include Ireland! You are talking in Euro's though right? Only Northen Ireland is part of the UK (techicaly) and i thought they use a different currency to Euros?

You say the 1.1 Active is 10995, if that's in Euros is works out at 8724 sterling! Quite a big difference from a few miles across the sea?!

We've punitive vehicle registration taxes here, and the 1.1 Active is higher spec this side of the water.

Virtually all cars are far more expensive here - at least we've cheaper petrol

I had a sit in a C1, and felt the quality of the build and plastics was very poor - the Panda has a far superior interior in my opinion.

Oh yes, the interior is well low rent,I have the rhythm model which costs a grant on top of the base model. For your extra grand you get front leccy windows, remote central locking, rev counter and 2 more air bags. Bargain eh(n)

Even on this top model, the interior light only comes on with the drivers door, open any others and your in the dark.

Compare this to what you get in a 500 pop for the same list price.

The interiors on th c1/107/aygo are ****e, but the engine I will defend. It's a total peach which does 55 mpg without trying, and pops along nicely.:)

I drive a C1, that 3 pot engine is a cracker, it develops 68 hp, a lot more than either the 1.1 or 1.2 panda.

Quite so, I had a C1 as a second car when I had a Smart Roadster. Just the basic 3 door, paid £5600 got 55mpg on the commute to work, grp 1 insurance. Part exchanged it for the 100HP and got £4900 with 9500 on the clock and 1 yr old so not too bad. Would recommend it to anyone wanting a cheap reliable decent car. Looks good, drives well and ridiculously economical. Have to say I would have it over a basic Panda....

When I was looking the choice came down to either the 1.2 dynamic Panda or a C2.

The C2 looked great and stylish (a burgundy colour) but was both impractable being a 3 door and I could NOT get comfortable. The latter reason being the killer blow as I spend a couple of hours a day at least normally behind the wheel.

And, from memory, it sounds like a popcorn machine when its running... hence horrific.
