Technical Noisy rear end

Technical Noisy rear end

Funny this thread should resurface as my 100 has started making clonking noises recently on uneven surfaces. I had assumed it was the spare wheel (which was slightly loose!) but that didn't solve it. Will have a look at the struts tonight - is it the end that connects to the car or the end that connects to the hatch which is the problem? I'm guessing that as it's taken 7.5k miles to surface there may be a slightly more long term solution than greasing every week? :D

Hi. With ref. to the noisy rear ends that you are all complaining of, I think you will find it is the rear seat catches. I had it on my first Panda, and I have had it on my 100hp. you will need a allen key to make the adjustment. undo the allen screws lift the loop part of the catch, and re-tighten. when you drop the seat back it should be ha(y)rd to catch, this will stop them from clunking. I had a play with the rear struts and while there was play in them, there didn't seem to be excessive play and I was getting too wet to fiddle with them further. I'll have a look at the rear seats first as it's less of the car to dismantle! :ROFLMAO:

Hi, i've greased mostly everythin up with vaseline:p. but if it starts up again i may adjust the rear seat thingy's.

Did you give the car the same treatment or are you just giving us a window into your depraved life :p

I never got round to looking at the struts today but keep us posted on if the rattle has gone. It sounds like there might be two distinct problems so it'll be interesting to see which I have!

Still having a problem with the rattle. Took it to another garage a few weeks ago,and they admitted there was a noise/rattle. They kept it overnight, and apparently changed the shocks and "lubricated everything". It was still exactly the same when I picked it up, in fact, I think it might even be worst than it was. Haven't had the time to take it back, but it really is driving me nuts. Have tried adjusting the rear seat, the hatch lock (to pull it in further), and fiddled around with the tailgate struts, all to no avail.
Any more ideas would be greatly welcomed.

One thing i tried was taking off the hatch lock striker plate ( catch thing attached to the tailgate sill ) and put a large 1mm ( approx ) thick washer between the plate and car body over each of the bolt holes just to raise the plate a little. No rattle for months now. + of course all the rest of the things I mentioned in a previous post - shocks, rear seat catches, tailgate struts etc etc.

Just digging this thread up rather than start another new one.

Had a fiddle with the Panda today and I have found that on mine the rattle is from the passenger side of the rear bumper. The inner plastic arch liner isn't secured in a particularly rigid manner and under a little pressure it can be made to knock against the bodywork and bumper.
Couple of lumps of strategically placed rubber should see it right.

Had I been clever I wouldn't have looked at it in a car park in Helmsley, got my hands hacky and dropped my brand new mobile on the deck :)

try looking closely at the lower mounting plate for the coil spring along the area where it is fixed/welded/formed from the axle cross member.Check for cracks/splits!
Don't know if this is relevant, but we had a mysterious creak/knock which appeared after shocks were replaced, and was thought to be related to faulty shocks by two mot garages!
wifes car (58 plate mot 24/8/15) now sporting a collapsed rear end - coil spring shot out, fortuately along a country road with little traffic - had been on M8 week before with grandchildren in!
Will post photos at weekend when I will be underneath trying to assess damage and fixability
I would advise you inspect thoroughly, immediately
