Since we bought our 05 multijet the front wipers juddered. The large drivers side one seemed to have trouble turning over at the end of each stroke. The blade was almost new but I noticed that the arm was pressing it very hard against the glass, much harder than the passenger side or on our other vehicles (a nearly new doblo and an 02 reg renault master minibus, both with similar sized wipers). To reduce this pressure I removed the arm and unhooked the tension spring(not easy, best done with arm gripped in vice as there is a lot of force in it). After a bit of experimenting I found that hooking a 8mm spring washer between the spring and the link it hooks over makes it easier for the blade to turn over and eliminates the juddering almost completely.

Sounds interesting - have you noticed any problems with the blades lifting at speed with the spring washer in place? :D

No, because theres still plenty of pressure there anyway.I just felt there was too much in the first place.Another thought I had was to try a blade with an aerofoil on it to see if it was more rigid and less prone to vibrating.

Here's the cure for wiper judder that I've used on almost every vehicle I've owned... The judder is caused by the blade not 'turning over' properly at the end of each stroke, or turning too soon or too late in the sweep.

You need a strong pair of pliers (or mole grips), and a bit of old rag.

If the wipers judder on the way up the screen (which is what normally happens), grip the wiper arm itself near to where the blade hooks on with the handles of the pliers pointing down towards the bonnet. (this may be easier if you swing the arm away from the glass - but remember which way you are going to twist it.) The old rag goes between the pliers and the arm to stop the black paint on the arm being marked. Now, twist the pliers upwards, away from the bonnet. You need to twist about 1/8th to 1/4 of a turn. The arm will twist back as you let go, but will end up with just enough of a permanent twist to cure the problem. If the wipers are juddering on the way back down the screen, twist the other way. If not fully cured, do it again! Works equally well on metal back wipers too (so no use for the Panda's rear blade I'm afraid)

Works every time... and cheaper than new blades. My Panda, Multipla and even the conservation group's LandRover I use at weekends have all been cured of wiper judder by this simple trick
