Hi,
As a new member and shortly to be owner of a 1.3 Multijet Panda diesel, I wondered if anyone has converted the car to a van by taking out the back seats, and made it into an occasional camper or sleep in vehicle. Also I have ordered split rear seats but I believe they just fold down rather than fold out of theway althogether to give a flat bottomed platform in the back. I need this to carry a PA System sometimes.. So, any clues, answers?? Cheers.

Have you had any luck with this question? I'd like to do the same!

Just checked out the cars on panda-tuning.com - have you seen the van (panda-tuning.com/van.html)...

The rear seat is just held in by 4 hex-screws. It's easy to unscrew and remove and then re-install.

And yes, the rear seat doesn't fold to give you a flat platform, but removing it will.

out with back rest(one piece 4 bolts)
marine ply cut to shape covers and protects seat for van use stand it up couple of cushions for temporary rear seat use. no big deal

Have any of you actually done this? what does it look like, is it a comfortable, functional place to sleep? I would like to do it too. I don't see the point in buying a camper if I'm travelling solo.

The person who did it for beehives says you get just under 4ft 10in (116cm) from front to back. So no, unless you're incredibly short, it'd be horribly uncomfortable for sleeping.

Well you could also fold down the passenger seat for a bit more length.

I know this is an old thread but I've only just found it. I've just bought a Fiat Panda 1.1 and the seats only tip forward rather than folding up. I want a flat base at the back so that my two dogs can travel with me and have room to move around. I shall contact the insurers today and see if unscrewing the back rest and moving it forwards onto the floor well behind the front seats counts as a modification. What I was wondering was is there any sort of fixing you could use in place of the bolts so that you could just slot the back rest back into position when you want to use the seats? This would effectively make it a fold away seat and it would be less likely to count as a modification.

I've had to take out the back seats loads of times when fitting new back seats in my panda. You will never be able to torque it correctly using an alternative bolt. Even with a hex key it's hard you need a hex socket. I would say keep a socket somewhere safe in the car it won't take up much space.

I think I'll use the same bolts in that case. It's only the back rest I'm taking off so it shouldn't be too much of a job to put it back again when I need it. I'll buy two hex keys, one to keep in the car and one to lose in a safe place somewhere in the house.
