I've been looking around for a set of snow chains for my Climbing...

Then I checked with the owner's manual, which says that the tyres (185/65 R14 86T M+S) cannot be fitted with snow chains!

Does anyone know why is this so?

And, what am I supposed to do now that i need snow chains?
Are snowsocks a reliable alternative?

HELP!

You can't put snow chains on alloy wheels. If you want to use snow chains you need a set of steel wheels for Winter use.

I think the reason why you can't fit snow chains to the 185/65 wheels is not because they are alloy, but because with their extra width they would foul on the wheel arches etc -- there's not a lot of clearance around the tyre, esp when turned to full lock. The narrower (steel rimmed) wheels leave more room.

Didn't snow here in the end...

They're class looking tyres... :p Surely you'd be heard a mile off with those...

Snow socks are supposed to be good. This may not be the cheapest place, but these will work great. Check youtube to see them in action.

Thanks m8...

autosock is one of the (at least) five brands in the market. Alternatives are
Fix&Go, Michelin, Goodyear QO9 and Weissenfels.

check this: http://www.sneeuwkettingen.com/goodyear/default.aspx
and this: http://www.weissenfels.com/en/prodotti/settore_auto/autovetture_suv_e_4x4/weisssock
and this:

Anyone used any of these?
