Bit of an unusual question...

Would the panda 100hp alloys, suspension and seats fit a usual 1.2 Panda?

I bet (apart from the power) it would really imporve things!

might be cheaper to sell up and buy a 100hp.

however, if you were to somehow swap the entire suspension over, you'd maybe find it needlessly hard considering its still powered by the 1.2

the alloys isn't a bad idea at all though.

Well suspension wise just get a Eibach pro kit fitted, would do the same thing..

Wheel wise be a bit more original and go for some 15s or 16s which aren't standard fit. The tyres make the difference (tip: don't go for Goodyear) so don't skimp on cheap tyres.

Seat wise it would be an impressive waste of money - half the fun is the being thrown about in the 1.2.

How about tuning the 1.2 engine? You can get the 1.2 engine to 90bhp for about £700, and with that power due to the engine/car ratio being lighter, it would be just as quick as the 100hp!

Or just get a 100hp..seriously please don't go wasting your money trying to make your 1.2 what it isn't, a 100hp - build on what it is and the advantages it has (less weight, better gearing) or even better get a multijet!!.

Better gearing.... Where have you read that or even proved that!

I would say that the Panda 100HP has some of the best timed gearing of alot of super-minis and seriously adds to its performance. The 1.2 was never designed with any form of performance in mind hense why you get a 5 speed gearbox with LONGGGGGGGGG gearing that runs out of puff at around 5000 rpm just as the Panda 100HP really starts to boil!

As for weight the 1.4 16V StarJet engine is actaully about the same weight as the 1.2 8V unit found still in many of fiats cars. The only added weight comes from things such as the alloys over hubs and minor details such as more sound proofing but still would only class the weight difference as minor 860 kg VS 975 kg ;) .

As for original post I really wouldnt start diloting the 100HP brand (no offense) but the 100HP is the 100HP and its like putting HGT badges off the Punto on a 1.2 ;)

Cheers

Not sure the Alloys could be put on without the arch extensions either which would also mean buying the sideskirts to go with them.I'll go with the rest, sell the 1.2 and get a 100HP:D

115kg difference between the two does make a difference. you gotta remember theres only an 85kg difference between the 100hp and the 1.4 16v sporting grande. so yeh, if you could get 90hp out of the 60hp 1.2, then it would match the 100hp. however i think youd need some serious induction, remapping, exhaust, cams and headwork to get 50% extra hp.

I didnt say it wouldnt make any difference in regards to the weight, obviously any weight loss is good but I simply stated its not really a major weight difference.

The Panda 1.2 producing 90HP would actually out perform the Panda 100HP on "paper" but when you compare the torque difference, gear ratios it would still be quite different in a real race ;) not forgetting the 100HP could be easily tuned as well.

Panda 1.2 @ 90HP - 90 / 870 * 1000 = 103.44HP
Panda 100HP @ 99HP - 99 / 975 * 1000 = 101.53HP

Cheers

Where have you found such a tuning? It is quite a big power increase for a petrol engine.

Have a look at this page here on Fiat Forum for someone who got their Punto 1.2 8v engine (same as Panda) over 90bhp. If you look at the list it's basically induction, throttle body, cams, cylinder head, exhuast and remap.

I quoted 90bhp earlier but perhaps I was being a bit modest. The power stats come from a gentleman called Francis Henderson. He is a tuner in Ireland and has his 1.2 Panda at over 104 bhp and he was looking for testers for his kit which included the cylinder head, induction, cams and a remap (I'm going to go the GSR route myself) and be but needless to say it thrashed my 2 litre Mazda 3 sport I took over there, and it's a hoot to drive as it has so much torque.

Anyone who knows the 8v FIRE engines know they are absolute gems and very very tunable. So I stick by my opinion stated above, the 1.2 is very tunable and due to the weight advantage over the 100hp, it could be turned into just as a capable car, more cheaply than selling the original car, and buying a new 100hp so people should consider this before selling up!

Having said that I'm trying to convince my mum to let me fit a GSR kit to her 100hp...not doing too well right now :(

just a daft idea, but the 1.2 is a 4 injector model, it doesnt have the VVT 'esque progrrogram the HP does in the ECU with the sport button, but the 16v HP is a 4 injector model also. what problems would you have witht he ecu driving the 1.2 coil packs and injectors if the HP ecu was bolted to a 1.2. the ECU is not aware of anything if all sensors are swapped over apart from slight overfuelling
also what HP does the 100Hp give without the button pressed?
just an idea, would like your input gents n gals
