Got my renewal through, me and other half for £255 fully comp. Neither of us is young, live in average postcode, no points. My Audi A6 was only £290 last year. I'm a bit disappointed as I bought this car to lower running costs and previous quotes (experimenting before buying) were around £175.

She has had two minor at-fault dings, one in 2005, one in Jan 2007. Probably doesn't help matters, but it didn't affect my old A6 or our Golf Gti insurance much.

Tried Direct Line, Confused etc. Only lower quote was Swiftcover at £189 odd - anyone have experience with them? I have a suspicion that insurers jack up the cost in year one due to the potential 'new for old' replacement cost etc.

P.S. Maybe the insurers have spotted me driving the Panda

See today's Daily Telegraph motoring section, Mr. Money column. Swiftcover found to cheapest but service and communication not always up to scratch. Other economical insurers who offer better service are mentioned.

I reckon that's what they do too.Classic example I can insure a 400cc Scooter that's 6 years old cheaper than I can insure a brand-new 125cc,yet the 400 can accelerate twice as fast and can touch 95 whereas the 125 struggles to 60:confused:

Never insure with the same company two years running either, you always pay more.

What I don't understand is the multijet is group 1 making it £250 to insure with 5 ncb for 10 months, however my lotus exige s is insurance group 20 and £440, not as much difference as I thought.

Multijet is Group 2...

Come live in Northern Ireland and then you can complain about the cost of insurance... My Multijet insurance cost me over £400 despite owning full licence (no points) since 1989, and having my own insurance (no claims, no accidents) since 1994. :(

Your quotes are so cheap in comparison...

A six-year-old 400cc scoot is considerably cheaper to buy than a brand new 125, hence the difference in insurance. Also, 125s crash and get stolen more than anything other than superbikes, due to mostly younger urban riders.

I shopped around when my renewal was due, and found Admiral offered me the best price for the third year running, apart from Swiftcover, who were £16 cheaper. A quick phone call to Admiral, and they matched the price, with better cover. £165 fully comp, plus £35 tax, only £200 a year - did the Golf or A6 match that? I would gloat about 60mpg, but my mate's Golf 1.9d gets 55mpg, which is very impressive. Of course, he does drive like an old lady, but still.

in recent years i have always shopped around for car insurance on the net confused.com etc,i always thought buying insurance on the net was the cheapest but beware, the last 2 years i found a local broker in the town where i live a lot cheaper with better like for like comparison.most of the big insurance providers on the net are owned by the same companies, also most of the big insurance providers on the net charge between 15 to 25 pounds when you change cars just for admin fees,my local broker does not charge an admin fee + i don't have to wait for documents..:)

I discovered that the AA charge £25 for changing over your insurance to a courtesy car... That's another reason why I'll never buy their insurance ever again... That is apart from their plain stupidity and having to ring them on three occasions to correct their mistakes hanging on the phone for almost an hour each time... I really don't care if they're the cheapest cause they're total numpties who I now don't trust... I'm going to start looking around the start of August for another company who will hopefully be more competent...

That's the trouble with the cheapies, they only appear cheap because they charge for all those 'standard' features and employ monkeys for peanuts.

Heard recently that several of the cheapies have even started charging for windscreen repairs which are usually done for their benefit rather than ours.

Trefor they are stinging you bad!
Im only 27 and HRH is a year younger and im getting the same price as you.

I have no points or accidents ( that count these days )

Im getting £260 fully comp protected from elephant.com
