Hi,

We picked up my wifes new (to her) Panda Eleganza on Saturday. Just had a look under the bonnet and noticed the engine coolant level looks a little low. Went to look in the owner's manual and guess what, not in the car. How on earth do I top up the level? The expansion tank has a cap with two tabs to stop it turning and I don't want to break it. I don't see a filler cap on the radiator either.

Am I being a bit thick....

Thanks in advance,

Darren

hang on will photo mine and check, back in 5 mins

edit : ok here are a couple of quick snaps, the blu and yellow capped clear round bottle with the pink liquid is the coolant tank, the cap should just turn off anti-clockwise as normal, i dont see any tabs on mine, can you get a photo of yours?

Thanks Jai,

That's what I thought it was just couldn't work out how to get the cap off. I've definitely got two tabs on the cap that locate and 'lock' onto a step on the bottle moulding.

I've just had another go and sussed it. You just have to squeeze the cap in the right place and the tab moves away from the step and hey presto.

Hi Darren,

Can I asked how you got the cap off? I'm having the same problem as you had, I can't for the life of me work out how the cap comes off. I've got a 56 plate 1.2 dynamic with the same radiator as yours (at the very front, not like the one in the picture above)

I've tried squeezing the cap but can not get it to pop out over the ridge. Any help or advice I would be very grateful for.

Sorry Jai I don’t own a digital camera.

Does anyone have a similar model? Can some kind soul who does please explain how the cap comes off. There is probably a knack to it but as yet I have not figured it out!!

IM having the same trouble on my panda 2013 can't get the cap off if anyone can help i would be very grateful. Tried squeezing but with no luck:confused::confused::confused:

The cap is lick the ' childproof' tops on medicine..

Squeeze and rotate to undo..lefty loosey

Righty tighty

Cars with aircon have the separate tank as the pics above, without aircon the cap is on the radiator spout. Both need to be squeezed to flex it slightly to get the tabs to ride over the ribs on the rad/tank. Like a childproof bottle top.

The coolant should not need topping up between coolant changes. If it needs topping up, this suggests a leak. Top up carefully to a mark, or mark with a pencil. Watch over a day or two. If it is falling, find why and fix it. Ignoring it will lead to head gasket issues. Most likely leak is water pump, which requires cambelt replacement too.
