EVO just dropped through the letter box (at 11am!!)

Anyway, they have a long-term Panda 100hp and they came up with this conclusion when driving both cars back to back

"With a litre of unleaded petrol costing 96p this meant the Prius used £4.68 worth less fuel than our Panda over the 502-mile test route. With this Prius' spec costing £20,677 compared with £10,000 for a Panda 100hp, the Prius owner would have to travel a total distance of 1,102,850 miles to get the additional cost back"

Prius - (First 273 miles) 26.24 litres 47.23 mpg
(Second 229 miles) 22.25 litres 46.73 mpg

Panda 100hp - (First 273 miles) 29.11 litres 42.58 mpg
(Second 229 miles) 24.26 litres 42.87 mpg

And which car was 13.2 secs quicker around Bedford Autodrome's West Circuit (1.8 miles)??

Which car received 4.5/5 stars while the other received 2/5 stars?

:D (y)

Interesting reading mate.(y)

Mind you I don't know if I should be offended by the Panda 100HP even being compared with an Eco friendly, tree-hugger mobile.

Sorry for any offence to owners of Eco friendly, tree hugger mobiles.;)

You forgot to add "Sorry for any offence to owners of Eco friendly, tree hugger mobiles stuffed to the brim with toxic batteries" ;)

Evo was a bit early this month wasn't it!?! I went straight to the 'Fast Fleet' and couldn't find the Panda, just Richard Porter's new Swift Sport thing. Then I spotted this article. I think the Panda did great.

The Prius is a clever car, and apart from being a bit pricey gives a lot of people what they want - a good feeling when driving. Of course a decent TDi would wipe the floor with the Prius in the economy stakes. I travel to the San Francisco Bay area for work a lot and around Palo Alto and other well heeled areas Priuses outnumber SUvs and pickups. I'm sure in a few more generations Prius type technology will be mainstream.

I think Evo used the Panda 100HP as it is the most economical car on their fleet.

Did anyone see the new BMW 118D which the various Eco mods? drops the CO enough to fall into a lower tax bracket and gets 10mpg more. But still does 0-60 in 8.9 secs. OK, I don't want a 1 series, but it shows there are many things manufacturers can do.

None taken HP. our new eco-friendly tree hugging, corn cutting John Deere combine swallows about 500 gallons in around 18 hours, I wonder how many batteries we'd need to cover the same time period. LOLOL.

Tara Ian.
Does HP stand for Hugging Panda's??.

Mmmmm.
And soon, when all fuel becomes very expensive indeed, and you can't afford gas derived fertilizer and oil derived pesticide for your farm, cos we ain't finding any more oil and we're using up what we've got, we are going to find it very expensive to eat, let alone fill up our Pandas. Pity.

Ulpian, I must admit i've got to agree with you, the amount of Red Diesel we go through during the harvest might just about keep all the UK panda's running for a few days. But at the present time we have no other options for getting the grain in (1100 acres ). or the oil seed rape.
At the height of the harvest we will be running 2 combines, 4 or 5 tractor and trailers, plus 2 MAN artic tippers, and nearly forgot the grain dryers also use diesel.
No we aint gonna get a medal for fuel conservation, but folks have gotta eat, on the other hand we could put the place out to set aside, pick up a fat cheque every year, and save a huge amount of fuel, but thats not going to put the bread on the table.

The prius is not eco friendly!!! Fuel economy isn't that great, 47mpg, there are cars which are better than that out there! But also its full of exotic materials for the batteries and motors which cause so much harm to the environment to produce and ultimately dispose off. So the Panda 100hp may be ever so slightly less economical but is still better for the environment. Then you go to the best Panda, the 1.1 active and it truly rules in all areas!! :D

sounds like a good test, and a fantastic result for the 100hp, i quite fancy one, but can't talk the missus in to having one!

What a pointless test!

I had a Panda courtesy car last week.

They are in no way comparable.

The Prius is about twice the size and is an auto. It'll seat 5 (very) comfortably and hold more than a few bags of shopping in the boot.

Completely pointless - anyone looking at a Prius won't buy a Panda and no-one looking at a Panda will want a full-sized 5 door family car.

Much as I love the Panda 100hp, I think there's some very biased reporting going on, especially the circuit lap time - that has to be deliberately sabotaged.

As for the 'not all that economical' claims - show me another full-sized family car, with an auto gearbox, that'll do 45-50mpg in the real world? - and I'm not talking about BMWs frankly fraudulent claims for their diesels, which are out by up to 100% in my experience.

No, definitely wasn't me, as it showed up on 'today's posts'. So, unless I was magically transported back to 2007 for a couple of minutes, it definitely wasn't me!
