locking/unlocking doors via alarm remote control

i just received my very first fiat panda. it's a gorgeous arancio, the 1.2 dynamic version.

for now i'm very happy with it...but one thing is really bothering me...this is why i am VERY angry on my dealer, because he didn't tell me about this until the deal was already made.

anyway, i know there are lots of cool guys here who can eventually help me with this issue:

so, the car has centralized lock (via key on the driver's door) - additionally i requested from a certified service in romania to install me an alarm system (K9 Classic). i didn't request for the function to connect the alarm system in order to enable the automatic lock of all doors when activating the alarm...but i thought this is "by default"...anyway, today i called the service and asked them to make the connection in order to have the function above, but i received the following answer: if you don't receive (via fabrication) a key that has buttons for centralized closing/opening, then you can only close/open it via key and enable the alarm system separately. they said you cannot install the system afterwards, you have it from the fabric, our you can't have it later!

is that correct?

will i have to open/close ; lock/unlock, from now on, the doors via key on the driver's door? no chance for installing a device to connect the alarm system to also lock/unlock doors from the remote control of the alarm system (when enabling/disabling)?

please help...

thanx alot,
pandalovah

I suspect the service is right: I think it's not easy to lock/unlock by just finding the right wire and putting a current on it. The locking is done by the whole CAN-bus thingie and I don't think you'd want to mess with that.

I got the Panda with the remote control and fortunately they were able to use it to turn on/off the alarm. This was easy because they simply tapped the wire going to one of the doors and use that for the alarm's on/off signal.

Hello!

I have a K9 Mundial installed and it is possibile to open and to close the doors from the remote, but I have also ordered the remote key, although I don't use it anymore and I thought it was wasted money, since I use the K9 remote now... It seems it was not in vain...

However I think it should be possibile to do it. If the doors are closing when you turn the key in the driver's door, it means that the driver's door has no electrical closing mechanism, only a switch that triggers the closing of the other doors. So, by installing an electrical mechanism from a central locking kit and connecting it to the alarm module, by pressing the alarm remote button it will close the driver's door and that will trigger the central locking mechanism. If the Fiat technicians are not able to help you, you should ask permission from your Fiat dealer to visit a K9 dealer (Falcon Electronics - www.falcon.ro) that should solve the problem if it is possibile. And I'm pretty sure it can be solved.

If you bought the Fiat alarm for your car it comes in two versions, one for those cars with a remote and one for those without. The one for cars without comes with all the fittings to make it remote operated which is why it's more expensive.

thanx alot, guys, for your feedbacks!

:)

next time, i'll be more careful when ordering a car...

anyway, will try hcampian's suggestions. thanx alot, m8.

Think you misunderstood what I was getting at, as you get the bits to make it work with Fiat's own alarm it should indeed be possible to get any driver's door to work and as long as your alarm has the necessary output to trigger the locks there is a pick up point already there to do it.

back with good news!

the dealer's technicians managed to install into the drivers door some kind of a mechanism to lock the car from the alarm's remote control.
they said the most important thing was to be sure that the alarm's central unit has free/unused contacts where to connect the new installed mechanism.

i was lucky, my K9 Classic alarm had all they needed.

so now i can lock/unlock all doors from my alarm's remote control + additionally the system locks automatically all doors when i start the engine.

so i am very happy atm! :)

i paid around 50 EUR for the whole thing and the installation took like 2,5-3hrs . dunno if all the time and effort was needed for this procedure, because i also asked them to check and fix the strange sound of my cooling system when using it on levels 1 and 2...
