traffic news volume and mirrors

Hello everyone,
Just signed up having had a browse around, looks a good and useful forum
Picked my new turquoise Multijet up at the weekend and thought it would be useful to have the traffic announcements on......nearly jumped out of my skin when the first one came on, according to the handbook the preset default vol=20, I was listening happily at 10 or 11. Is there any hidden/advanced menu system that allows you to change the traffic news volume?
Also tried to adjust the driver's (rhd) door mirror so its not half full (slight exaggeration) of the side of the car but it wouldn't move out any further, I imagine it would be even worse if I was taller. The passenger door mirror adjustment is fine, but it's as if the mirrors have been set up for a lhd driving position without considering rhd
Any suggestions??
Thanks,
Johne.

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

Hi there, welcome to the Forum. Good choice of car with the multijet

Re the radio - I'm sure you can adjust the traffic message volume, it will be in the audio handbook somewhere. May need to do it whilst an announcement is in progress.

Re the mirror - have you tried moving the actual mirror body by hand out a bit, they swivel to give some adjustment. I presume you might have electric mirrors - the in-car control doesnt give you that much movement so you have to get the basic position right by moving the mirror housing by hand then minor adjust with the in-car controls (manual or electric).

Did you get a boot light??

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

Welcome aboard, the TA volume is user alterable, have a look in the manual, it may be as simple as just turning down the volume when TA is activated. I changed my radio so can't tell you more though.

The mirrors? Mine have the electric adjuster down by the handbrake. The exterior housings also swivel, and they seem to be positioned ok. It may be the glass has moved in the housing, or you need to move the housing out a bit more......

Did you get a boot light?

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

Thanks for the welcome
Yes you can change the volume while the announcement is on, but it comes back at 20 for the next bulletin, to quote the audio handbook 'If the volume is changed during a traffic bulletin the value is not shown on the display and the new value is kept only for the bulletin in progress'. I was wondering if there's some 'hidden' menu to change it which is accessed by some particular button pushing sequence not in the manual (like I use for resetting the service interval on our Multipla).
I'll give the mirror housing a push as I get in after work, perhaps it's not clicked into place properly.....and I'll check in the boot for a light, is this some ongoing mystery?

It's a sort of initiation rite for new owners, trying to find if you got a boot light fitted at the factory lottery, whether or not you got a free locking fuel cap, etc etc. Some did get both, some got none of each, some got only one. Others, as yet, haven't noticed.

Me, I didn't get 'Permanent Four Wheel Drive' written on my 4x4 side strips. Others, who shall not be named, did.

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

it appears after the first year of production there were a few changes in addition to the ones above, h and i noticed as we walked around the various nouva pandas at gaydon, the colour strip on the inside of the rear lights changed from red to black, the rear hatch door also lost the plastic moulding with built in handle to a cloth on with strap. im sure there are a ton of other changes, mainly it would appear taking the less expensive version from lower down the range and moving them up

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

Well, I gave the mirror housing a nudge outwards and also pushed the outside edge of the mirror glass, both moved the field of vision out a bit so now it is just about where I would want it (so I can just see the side of the car for a reference point, but otherwise with as much width of road visible as possible), but it's still at maximum adjustment, so anyone who wanted the seat further away from the wheel couldn't move it any further.
The radio is still bugging me BBC Kent made me jump this morning - and I'm in Essex. I think I'll give the dealer a call see if they know anything.......
No boot light, or locking fuel cap. I see the boot light is mentioned in the 2005 brochure I've got. TBH I'd rather have those two features than the city steering, follow me home lights and automatic rear wiper on reverse - all of which seem to introduce too much electrical complexity for a cheap car.
But having said that it still performs better than any 1300cc diesel has the right to

I got these stickers but my pressure washer is making a heroic effort to remove them so in the end I may complete the job myself.

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

While listening to my i-pod, the traffic announcement came on one day and made me jump... I retaliated by turning it off...

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

Hmmmm.
Just had a look and listen to my mate Pete's 05 reg Panda, his 20 on the volume scale sounds the same as 10 or 12 on mine i.e. normal listening level at idle or town traffic speeds. I've tried turning the equalisation for all frequency levels down to minimum which has reduced the volume a bit, but still not enough.
Oh, BTW, Pete's 1.2 Dynamic doesn't have a boot light or locking fuel cap either!

I thought that when I read the first post - 10 on mine is too quiet to hear when driving.
There was a change of radios at some point, to ones with a knurled volume knob, rather than a smooth one. It could be that the early ones have lower numbers for equivalent volumes.

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

I am a bit deaf, but when my radio comes on at 20, even at tickover, I can hardly hear it, and at normal driving speeds, I have to tun it up to 45! This takes around 2 complete turns of the knob, and with it being quite a stretch on a lhd model, its a bit of a pain. I find it difficult to believe that anyone could hear anything clearly in my car at 10 or 12.

Re: traffic news volume and mirrors

Mine too comes on at a rather quiet 20 .
I usually turn it up and listen to the radio at 30 (or 40 if it's a good tune ).
