| Can you beat this for brake wear? I have just been advised by the local dealer service centre that I need new front pads and discs (see the history below). New discs were fitted less than a year (and less than 10,000m) ago. I was told by the garage that the pads were OK in March. I am I just going to have to get used to the idea that I will need new discs EVERY time the pads are changed? I have read many of the postings about breaks here (sorry for posting again on this topic, never seems do go away does it?). Can I expect to get at least 10k (and more than a year) from a set of discs? 17-jul-08 32000m (ish) Advised by dealer that new front pads and discs are required 05-jun-08 Kwik fit adivsed my that the front pads had only minimal life left 17-mar-08 - 28625m Car had dealer service and MOT where I was told that the front pads were approx 60% worn 21-aug-07 - 24291m Front pads and discs replaced by dealer Hang on - I've just re-read my post.... That means my first set of front pads and discs lasted over 24k and the second set lasted about 10k (when nothing about my driving has changed). Howz that???? Should the dealer be able to help?

Driving style and circumstances have a LOT to do with brake wear, I have 30,000 miles on my 56 plate GPS (not a Panda I know) but my pads are good for another 20,000 miles at least and barely a lip on the discs. Maybe FIAT brake bits dont last megga miles but there is usually more than meets the eye when things like this happen, could the front brakes be sticking on partially for example?

| Re: Can you beat this for brake wear? My Panda 4x4 needed new pads and discs at 25,000 miles. I know this was not a dealer trying to sell unnecessary parts as I measured the pad and disc wear myself and replaced the parts myself. I agree that this particular model of the Panda is going to need front pads and discs replaced simultaneously and I think a lot of it is down to the car being heavier than any other Panda model. However, with no change in your driving pattern, I am astonished that your replacement pads and discs only lasted a further 10,000 miles. As the degree of wear was noticed both by Kwikfit and the dealer I don't think anyone was trying to con you. My only other thought is that the repacement front brakes may have been binding slightly, thus wearing away all the time. This occurs to me as I think this was happening on my rear disc brakes as the pads neared the end of their lives at 28,000 miles. Since I replaced the pads and lubricated the channels that they run in I have seen an improvement in fuel economy and the car feels faster. By the way, have you needed rear pads yet and if so, did the dealer try to sell you new discs as well? They did with me but my assessment, backed up at MOT, was that the discs were within the wear limit and serviceable, saving me some money as I only replaced the pads.

| Re: Can you beat this for brake wear? Yeah they advised me that rear pads needed replacing, but not discs I am pleased to say. And hey, I'm over the moon with the wear on the rears. I take on board what's been suggested, any possible explanation makes me feel a lot better. I have to admit that I did wonder about the quality of the parts that were fitted (but that is why I go to my dealer). I supose I would have been happier if, at the MOT, someone had said "hey mate keep a close eye on them brakes - that is some rapid wear going on down there". I know the car is my responsibility so I shouldn't grumble hey.

and very often the discs dont need changing at all..if the car is out of waranty then you can get better quality discs like the EBC ones far cheaper than fiat ones as well..
